Everyone makes mistakes with FH - it's impossible not to, given the strange transcriptions we often have to contend with, and multiple other factors.

Glad you're now clear in your own mind about the people in question.

Enjoy your research...............

RussellF97 Report 18 Oct 2019 12:46

Yes, ErikaH, you are absolutely correct. The article states she is Mrs Mary (Polly) Bullivant, wife of Mr G Bullivant and widow of Mr Robert Jaggard of Mildenhall. It also states she was 67 years old (born c.1869). She is the Mary King who married Robert Jaggard in 1893.
There's a Robert Jaggard aged 32 death in Mildenhall in 1899, and there are four Jaggard/King births between 1894 & 1899 in Mildenhall.
There is a Mary Jaggard, Widow, Grocer & Shopkeeper/Baker in Beck Row in the 1901 & 1911 censuses. It was this Mary who married George in 1920 and that would explain the selling of her furniture in 1921, because she was moving to Yorkshire. It would also explain the slightly unusual (to me anyway) wording of the auction notice: "Mrs Mary Bullivant (late Jaggard)..."

OK, I hold my hand up! I got it wrong this time, but life is a learning curve - and the person who never made a mistake never made anything.

Thank you one and all for your replies and for steering me in the right direction, very much appreciated.

Mary Bullivent was Mary Jaggard ,formally ""King"",married Robert Jaggard 1894,and a widow when she married George Bullivent,

ErikaH Report 18 Oct 2019 10:26

Confirms what we’ve been saying, namely, that the woman who married in 1920 was NOT the one who was on 1939 register- unmarried - and who died in 1946.

ErikaH:
Hmmm, you've managed to raise doubts that I may have added two and two and made about four point three.

What sent me down the track I was on was that there was only one marriage found between a George Bullivant and a Mary Jaggard, then there was the notice stating "Mary Bullivant (late Jaggard)" selling the furniture and Mary was the right age to get married.
Also, there doesn't seem to be any obvious remarriage or death local-ish for a Mary Bullivant.
In the 1911 census, there is only one Mary Jaggard (although there are Marys with middle names), and a May Jaggard who is really *my* Mary.
However, I've ordered Mary and George's marriage cert, so in about a week or so, with a bit of luck I may be on the right track - watch this space.

Surely, if they'd split up she'd have needed her furniture - not be selling it?

Don't follow your reasoning on that.

The woman with a similar name who married Bullivant was born a few decades earlier

Thank you one and all for your replies. I've been away without internet access while everyone seems to have been beavering away looking for George! Also, I hadn't ticked the 'Add to My Watched Threads' box. Oops...

Looking on Findmypast, there is a Mary Jaggard in electoral rolls in Beck Row, but this is a different Mary.

Mary, named as May Jaggard, is in the 1939 Register. She is in St Audrey's Hospital, Melton, Woodbridge, Sufffolk, described as a Hotel Manageress.
She died on 15 Jan 1946 and was buried 19 Jan 1946 in Beck Row Methodist Churchyard, Beck Row, Mildenhall, Suffolk. (Bury Free Press 18 Jan 1946)

I think to find the right George Bullivant I'll have to get the marriage cert to get his age and (hopefully) his father's name.

Again, thanks all...
