This is a tricky one as he is transported around 1844 but may have come back. I have a lot of age references for him due to his criminal record as follows below.

17 Mar 1830 = 33 (1797)
23 Feb 1833 = 35 (1798)
1841 census = 40 (1801 not likely)
6 Jan 1844 = 46 (1798)
The following may be him if he returned after transportation.
5 Feb 1869 = 70 (1799)
4 Jan 1873 = 76 (1797)

He was born in Northamptonshire and lived in Tansor, Warmington and around Oundle. I have looked through the parish registers for these on the dates listed but nothing. He may not have been baptised but I just wondered if anybody else could pull something up.

Tip - remember with the 1841 census that ages above 15 were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 5. Shown as age 40 in 1841 would therefore mean that he was aged anywhere from 40 - 44 making his birth year anywhere between 1801 and 1797.

Likewise in other census years if a person said eg. they were 40 in 1861, the simple maths makes them born 1821. Buy if you bear in mind the dates of census a person is by around ¾ more likely to have been born in the previous year.

Interestingly it states he is married on the prison hulk record - so he may have re-married after the death of his first wife and before the 1844 trial.

That Samuel in Tansor in 1841 lived in Town Street.

Charles Wheelwright, clergyman (see one of the convict records posted earlier) also lived in Town Street with his wife and children.
