Yes, it will be worth buying the certificate to get to the bottom of this.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 29 Jun 2020 15:30

No proof yet that Arthur fathered Phyllis

And if the mother was the Bond woman, she was lucky her husband took her back

Also, Constance had her second husband already in her home on 1911 census

Arthur was describing himself as 'single', so we can't judge whose fault the break-up was. It certainly happened before Phyllis was born

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 29 Jun 2020 15:31

The marriage cert may not necessarily answer your question - she may have lied about her father - IF she named one.

Deborah Report 29 Jun 2020 15:35

I may never know, thank you for all your help though, you have been brilliant, as usual.

It filled in a few blanks if nothing else.

ErikaH Report 29 Jun 2020 15:38

To have given birth at the end of December, Charlotte would have had to be 'together' with Arthur (or someone) no later than the middle of April - does that seem likely with a 3-month old son to care for?
Just asking the question....................

Deborah

Deborah Report 29 Jun 2020 15:52

I can see where you are going with this. I have just emailed the person who sprung this on me, will see what she knows, however I suspect it will be nothing.

However, it doesn't look as if she was actually caring for Timothy on 2 April 1911. He was with his grandparents:

Posting for interest value, though it doesn't help with the search for Phyllis's birth;

ErikaH posted the 1911 census for Charlotte and Jeremiah Reardon.

They are listed as niece and husband.

Also in the household, but not transcribed on Ancestry, are :

Miles Lewis, head, 49, collier, Ebbw Vale;
Ann Lewis, wife, 51, Pontypool
Maud Lewis, daughter, 15, Pontlottyn

In 1901 they also have a daughter Amelia, who married a Jones, so the Jones children in 1911 are hers.

In 1891 Miles is with the Bond family:

Thank you AG, it certainly is getting interesting.

ErikaH Report 29 Jun 2020 16:08

The son to which I referred was Jacob aged 2 months in 1911. Posted on here at 13.31

Who suggested to you that the mother of Phyllis Martin was Charlotte Bond?

Does he - or she - have any evidence to support the theory?

Deborah

Deborah Report 29 Jun 2020 16:21

The Grand daughter, she said she will ring me later.

Deborah

Deborah Report 29 Jun 2020 19:31

Ive had the phone call, not a lot of help. I will have to investigate further.

I am told Charlotte Ann Bond and Jeremiah Reardon had 4 Children. Timothy 1908-1987. Jacob J 1911 to 1999. Phyliss Irene 1911 to 1992 Grace Myrtle 1920-2003

The only one I can see belonging to Reardon/Bond marriage is Grace Myrtle

She suggested that Phyliss Irene used the surname Reardon to cover up the Martin liason, but it needs further clarification which I will have to do tomorrow. Having said that I couldnt find a birth entry using the name Reardon so I doubt I will find a marriage entry or banns.

Have got to leave it for an hour or so, just wanted to let you know and say thank you for all your help again.

Deborah -
you said re Phyllis:

"I couldnt find a birth entry using the name Reardon so I doubt I will find a marriage entry or banns"

Erika posted Phyllis Martin's marriage to Thomas Kemp on page 1 at 13:36.

Deborah

Deborah Report 29 Jun 2020 22:01

Sorry AG and ErikaH, I am mixing up Charlotte Ann Bond with Charlotte Ann Readon now. Apparently, Charlotte Ann Reardon called herself Pat. and Charlotte AKA Pat had a daughter Patricia, who married someone with the surname Price.

I got a bit confused with it all. Will PM you both.

I just found this, the year of birth is 1914 and not 1911, but maybe the 1939 census entry was incorrect (maybe registered in the name of Reardon to cover up the Martin liason)

That was posted earlier. She is the one who married a Higginson and had a daughter Patricia.
