Gwyn in Kent Report 14 Sep 2021 16:18

Thank you for clearing up those postings, ArgyllGran.

Our internet has really been playing up this week and I'm not always able to go off and search for verification.

ArgyllGran Report 14 Sep 2021 09:53

Just to clear up a couple of loose ends -

At 17:09 on 13 Sept, Gwyn posted the WW1 army record of a Percy John Barley.
He was William Barley's brother, born 1898.
In 1939 he's living in Biggleswade with wife Gladys. His DOB given as 8/7/1898.

Then at 17:51 Gwyn mentioned, as a slight possibility, the 1939 record of a Percy J Barley, born 28/3/1912.
"Barley" is a mistranscription - that man's surname was Bailey.

Percy John Bailey.
Born in West Ham; parents John and Florence May (nee Roper) Bailey .
Died in Northampton in 1985; DOB 28/3/ 1912.

"Your" Percy Albert Barley was probably already in the army at the time of the 1939 Register being compiled, and therefore doesn't appear on it.

Kate was born illegitimately as Ling, but brought up as Holiday after her mother Eliza Ann Ling married Charles Robert Holiday (or other spelling).

She's on the 1891 census as Ling, then in 1901 and 1911 her name's Holiday, and she's with Eliza and Charles and siblings.

Kate was only married once, to William Barley.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 13 Sep 2021 22:10

I had lost the plot there with the marriage :-0 It was Kate I was referring to re Ling. Have I got that right

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Sep 2021 22:07

Who do you mean was married before?

Eliza?

No, she wasn't - she had Kate before she married Charles Holiday/Haliday/Halliday.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Sep 2021 22:05

LaGooner -

Percy's parents' marriage was posted twice at 18:07, by me and by Shirley.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 13 Sep 2021 22:01

Thank you I did not realise she had been married before

Percy's birth record won't be available until 2033 - 120 years after the birth.

(That's assuming he was born in Alberta.)
