My Uncle was James Harold Dore. He was born on 19th May 1914c. Our family doesn’t know anything about his past. I have looked up birth records for the dates and found a record of a birth in Hackney to a Mother with the name of Dore . All that we were told was that his Mother died in childbirth and his Dad died in the war, so an Aunt took him in. If this is true or not we don’t know. If anyone can give me any help I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

If he was your uncle, his sibling must have been your parent

Did James give a name for his father when he married?

Illegitimate birth, per GRO:

DORE, JAMES HAROLD -
GRO Reference: 1914 J Quarter in HACKNEY Volume 01B Page 998

You may never know his father's name, but the birth cert will name his mother..

When the 1921 census comes online hopefully you may find him and who he is living with

When you get his birth cert which will name his mum then you can look for her on the census and search for a death to see if it ties with the story about her dying in childbirth
