Find Ancestors

Can anyone help find this man please. My elderly relative says he was a Judge dealing with divorce cases, probably 1900s but I can’t find any records of him. His Uncle John was in India in the army and had two brothers William and Thomas, one of whom she thinks was John Francis’ father. Thank you.

The father of that man was Ernest W, mother Ivy

Found Thomas (1856 - 1901) and william (1850-1876) in Leicester but can’t link John Frances Merriman to them. Also tried to find lists of Judges names but nothing.

How did you work back to the brothers in Leicester?

Think early 1900s but not sure.

How reliable is your informant? What is the basis for the statement that JFM was a judge?

She recalls Uncle John (who was in the army in India) was the brother of John Francis’ father (either William or Thomas). I realise this is only hearsay but I decided to research but haven’t been able to verify anything other than find John and his brothers but no John Francis.

Could he have been Francis John, there is one on Ancestry born 1915 died 1990 Leicestershire.

Several trees on Ancestry show his parenst as Joseph Merriman & Fanny

Edit. Probably not that one - 1939 occupation is wrong.

Both the brothers named were dead by 1901

Did either of the brothers marry? Are they shown on censuses with children?

Can’t find marriages for them. I know their parents were Thomas Merriman 1821 - 1862 and Hannah Palmer 1821 - 1886. Looks like we are not going to get any further.
