Yes, it was your lead that helped me, thank you all very much.

That's good to know, Deborah!

I wrote to Edward Knighton yesterday, and we are now in communication, it seems that he is also is a distant relative of Charles Birney Carrothers. Charles is in fact the 3x Great Grandfather of my cousin whom I am working on this with. Edward hasn't been able to find any parents yet either.

Just wanted to say thank you for the lead, apparently he has a lot more information about Charles, although not the name of his parents.

I will also follow up the other lead you gave me for possible parents for Maria.

Thanks again.

Sorry for delay, yes I do have most of it, its Charles parents which is the missing piece of information, there are 3 of us working on it, and none of us can find the parents. I was hoping to find a baptism record in the absence of a marriage record, I will have to look again later as I am out today.

Thank you for all your help so far.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 2 Mar 2022 14:07

I said there was no parental info on the Ancestry 'tree'.

Sorry I didn’t post any later info, as I assumed you had it all - having worked back to Charles and Maria :-( :-(

Thank you again Shirley, I was looking for a baptism record for Charles, but have had no luck, was hoping it would show his parents.

Have been looking at the tree on Ancestry which ErikaH mentioned earlier, it is very well documented, but no mention of his parents.

I will have a look at that, thank you ArgyllGran.

ArgyllGran Report 2 Mar 2022 12:16

Not born in Scotland, (at least no baptism record on SP)

From a tree on Ancestry, re DOB:

"An estimate based on his first commission as an ensign in 1808. After 1795, the minimum age requirement to join the Army was 16."

The tree (owner Edward Knighton; tree name "C B Carrothers Tree") seems to have quite a bit of info about his time as a soldier.

Lots of proof attached - interestingly, the tree says he was in France in 1813, Belgium in 1815 (during the Peninsular campaigns, per his death notice in the Belfast Newsletter of 3 March 1852) , and Limerick in 1833 when he retired.

But nothing about his parents.

That's an interesting find Shirley, we do know that a lot of them moved to Liverpool.
