Can you please advise how their names are listed on the census report and their full details please including occupations etc. Also whether my grandad Alan Paul Gates born 1925, Southampton is listed with them as I can't find him.

Sorry also can address be checked please as I never heard of that place in Southampton and cannot find it on google.

Sorry I mean can you let me know how Vera and Lorance's names are actually stated/listed on the census as I like to record how they list themselves (as they seem to like changing their names around often on records) Hope that makes sense.

Thank you both. Really appreciate your help. Just don't understand where their oldest son Alan Paul Gates born 1925 (my grandad is)

Apart from assuming the child redacted after Donald's entry is the youngest there is no way of knowing who the earlier two are. So Alan is not neccessarily the one not at home.

Would it be at all possible for someone to send me a screen shot/photo of the report showing the address listed as Waberham Lane, Southampton at all please? It is not listed on the Kelly's Street directory for 1939/40 and shows nothing on google either. I'm therefore wondering if its a possible mistranscribed.

Having looked at the previous page, that is transcribed as Waterhouse Lane. The writing is not the best, but that page continues to the one on which the family you're interested in and you can see how the transcriber has made Waberham out of the word (though not if it was the same person transcribing both pages!)

Otherwise - maybe his death just hasn't been picked up?

looks like patricia still living in southamton in 2005 uner her married name

Thank you greyghost, that's very helpful. Now there is a Waterhouse Lane in Southampton and it is very close to a bedding manufacturer listed in Kelly's 1939. I have also just found L Gates at Waterhouse Lane on a Southampton register too so perfect.

That would make sense that Alan's death maybe just wasn't picked up but as we do have a copy of his death I will see if I can get the record open
