Thank you
I've just gone through 501 pages of 1911 census thinking James was living their after I'd gone through them all looking for his father I realised that although the house hold seemed right it was for Thomas Garside & Harriet his wife and 2 children which match but for the Thomas not James ??
I suppose he could have been a lodger in 1904

Sylann

Sylann Report 29 Oct 2022 14:29

looked again signed James and the name on the census could be James So at least I've got that right
Living at 23 Bedford St

ArgyllGran Report 29 Oct 2022 14:43

There's nobody living at 23 Bedford Street in 1901.

Someone with a sub to FMP could easily find out who's at these addresses - ie - not me!
I'm sure someone will be along later.

Thank you for that I have all that and it would appear James 1883 stayed at 23 Bedford until 1913 but The thing I can't find is James 's Father James and that address was 39 Bedford st

I can't find anything on James Garside father of James Garside 1883 on the marriage it has the address but that doesn't mean James sen lived there
All I've got is he was a greengrocer ?
The father I've got is James 1848 and an engine driver so clearly I've gone wrong
I think on GRO their are a few James born Manchester?

In spite of much hunting, I don't see any James Garside who is a greengrocer.
If your James is Sophia's son, perhaps he just said his father was a greengrocer because it seemed better than carter. Or maybe he was a carter for a greengrocer!

Although we only know who was at home on the census nights, and not what the situation was all the rest of each year, it does seem possible that James senior had left Sophia and the children.

Sylann, how did you get back to your James Garside?

Do you know that Harriet was actually his wife?

I have found an Army Record for a James Garside with a wife Harriet Turner who married at All Saints Registry Office, 4/12/1904 or 25/12/1904 is this the Certificate you have? Do you know the names of their children?
