Find Ancestors

I have a George Smith b1814 in Newbury, Berkshire. Brother of my 3xgreat grandfather.

On various census' I have him married to 'Mary Ann' from Dummer, Hampshire, and sometimes elsewhere....

In 1891 I have them living in Addington, Surrey.

I am trying to find her surname - there is a possibility that it is Cosens (March 1845 Marriage Alverstoke) but am unsure if this is the correct one

Also, I have a death for George in Newbury 1890, but in 1891 living in Addington
with Mary Ann !

Am very confused here.....

George's place of birth perhaps should read Speen, which is a couple of miles from Newbury

What makes you think the 1890 death in Newbury RD is your George?

for 1891, I read it as 'Berks, Speen' for George Smith.

As for the 1890 death, I have have this on record for a long time, I am revisiting stuff now, and wondering why I got that date? Hence me going over everything and rechecking.

There are several George Smith deaths between 1891 and 1901 in the Croyden RD where they were living in 1891 within a year or so of the age he would have been if born 1814

Mary is a widow in 1901 so I expect one of those deaths is George

Anyway of trying to find her maiden name (possibly Cosens?)

The census appear more often to give a birth year of 1816, going by the age he is said to be, so would mean 1815/16

Age 75 in 1891 - don't forget the age given would be to the best knowledge of the person completing the census / registering the death

Do you have a tree on ancestry Marcus? If so, you already have Mary Ann James as a possible wife.

If it is your tree, you have gone wrong with having Samuel Riddley b 1870 as their son. The 1871 census goes from p 12 with George and Mary on to p 15 with Samuel on.
Samuel Ridley has parents William and Ann.

I do, I added her surname 'James' to it earlier as ErikaH mentioned it & I thought that it seems to fit.

Yes, I know it's premature as I haven't proved it yet (No certificate) ! just thought I's chance it for now.

As for Samuel, I haven't got round to removing him yet, but I realise the mistake !
