Have checked the 1851 census again and can´t come up with anything better than the Stephens one that I found

Elaine

Elaine Report 24 Jan 2006 15:22

I don´t have 1841 Lancashire census so perhaps someone else could look that up for you. Would update your title and put 1841 Lancs lookup needed

I am wondering if this is a possible ON 1851 John Bradley abt 1838 Little Lever, Lancashire, England Lodger Little Lever Lancashire Elisabeth Stephens abt 1838 Little Lever, Lancashire, England Daughter Little Lever Lancashire James Stephens abt 1816 Little Lever, Lancashire, England Head Little Lever Lancashire James Stephens abt 1849 Little Lever, Lancashire, England Son Little Lever Lancashire Samuel Stephens abt 1847 Little Lever, Lancashire, England Son Little Lever Lancashire Susana Stephens abt 1817 Little Lever, Lancashire, England Wife Little Lever Lancashire The image is not clear - does look like Stephens and maybe misheard by enumerator. Samuel and James age match up - and not we have a John Bradley with them - we found Levi Bradley with them before !!

Hi me again You'll probably get fed up of me, and I really should see about subscribing to the census' I feel cheeky keep asking for help. Is there anyway that I could find out James Stephensons first wifes name? He's been found on the 1861 widowed and 1871 census' lists, giving his 2nd wifes name on 1871 as Mary. Also his name spelt Stevenson. Would his first wifes name appear on maybe the 1851 or maybe 1841 lists? or perhaps there would be a marriage record for him? I am in the process of adding all the information you have found for me onto my tree and I would love to be able to have his first wifes name on there. Thanks again Irene

Have found Isaac for you - see above. William is a bit more difficult - he is probably there but there are too many to choose from so wouldn´t know if I have got the right one or not. Bit confused with Edmunds marriage. You say he married when he was aged 44 - therefore approximately in 1869 and his first child was Sarah Jane. However, we have found him on 1861 census married to Elizabeth with a child named Susannah b 1861. However, I still cannot find a marriage for him!!

Hi I can't thank you all enough for the help you have given me. It is the right Edmund. I do know that Edmund Heaton and Elizabeth married in St. Stephens church in Farnworth. but no dates. He was 44 and she 29 apparently, or so my cousin told me, it would make him well into his 50s when he had his youngest child sarah Jane who was born in 1880. Also you have helped me to find two missing people that we knew should have been mentioned in the family 'Heaton' Isaac R. and William. we knew there were two others, but didnt know much about them, and are thinking they may possibly have joined one of the forces at the times they do not appear on the census' I'm wondering if they were killed or moved away after 1881 as they would have been in their late 20s early 30s between 1881/91. We also know that Edmund lived at 160 church St. Little Lever on the 1991 census along with two other Church St numbers. Also Alice Heaton married my GGrandfather Harold Whitehead on 4th Sept 1898 when she had just turned 19yrs old and he 20. They spent some of their time also in Church st. namely 160, 113,125,and 176 I really can't express in words how grateful I am to you all for helping me with this, I have been trying to research for almost three yrs and you have accomplished what I couldnt in one day. Thankyou so much from both myself and my cousin who has been trying for 16 yrs, and all those times without a computer too.

Well it looks as if we are on right track - the 1881 census certainly matches up with the family names you have now given There is definitely a Stevenson connection - 1861 census shows Edmund listed as son in law with Stevenson family. However, cannot find a marriage for him at the moment. FC found the 1851 census for you which shows Edmund with parents and siblings.

Wow that was quick. Thanks so much. The information I got from a cousin stated Edmund Heaton b1824 Coal Miner/Collier, probably in Rumworth Bolton, Married to Elizabeth Duckworth or maybe Stephenson we arent too sure of her maiden name. Their children were : Mary aged 23 b1868 Cotton Weaver, Elizabeth 18 b1873 Cotton Weaver, John 14 b1877 Coal miner, Alice 12 b1879 P.T Cotton Weaver, Sarah Jane 11b1880 P.T Cotton Weaver and Edmund S. 8 Scholar b 1883. On the 1891 Census they are listed as living at 160 Church street. Little Lever Bolton. in the Parish of St. Matthews. They were from the Darcy lever/Little Lever/Rumworth area of Bolton and Farnworth. Although Farnworth was classed as Bolton at some point in time. It is any information before this time that would give me Edmund Sn parents/ siblings etc. As I do not know if he had other brothers or sisters' I only managed to get as far back as him on 1891/1901 census and his year of birth 1824 and his wife Elizabeth b1839 occupation was midwife, they married in St.Stephens church in Farnworth. Hope this extra info helps..... I do appreciate all the trouble you are going to for me. Irene

It looks as if the 1861 and 1871 census for Edmund Heaton that I found earlier are not right - as I have just found the above 1871 census which shows an Edward with Elizabeth and family - the same family as the 1881 above. These need checking !!
