Hi Anne I found William Orr age 30 in the 1871 census. He was born Nov 1840 in Paisley Renfrew. In 1871 he was single, living in Glasgow, occupation Cook. I think I may have found him in the 1861 census with birthplace Lochwinnoch, Renfrew. Could you have a look for him in 1881? Thanks April

Hi Anne. Hope you can find this guy for me. Thomas Buchanan born c1815 in Denny, Stirlingshire. On the 1871 he is in Coatbridge - Parish of Old Monkland. His wife's death in 1873 has him in New Dundyvan. Also, I have a printout for the following, but have no document to back it up. Could you check it out for me, so I don't have to type it out. Thanks. Institution: ''Glasgow Royal Asylum'' Gartnavel Source FHL Film 0203691 GRO REf Volume 646-2 EnumDist 37 Page 13 There are approx 25 people for this record. Many thanks. Margaret

Hi Anne. I've got a feeling that there must be a few Thomas' born around the same time in Denny. My Thomas was a Flesher, so I don't think the one you found is my man. I haven't been able to find a death record for him at all, so am unsure if he is even alive for the 1881 census. Any luck with finding the record for the Asylum?

MARGARET LINDSAY, CANADA Hi Margaret I cannot search by buildings, only names. Do you know anyone who might have been in Gartnavel in 1881? If so if you give me their name I might be able to find them. I can tell you that the hospital is still in existance. It is now known as Gartnavel Royal Hospital. It is for people with learning disabilities who cannot live in the community. There is a new Gartnavel General Hospital built beside it in Great Western Road, Glasgow. Hope this helps. Anne
