Hi there, thanks for your kind offer. Could you please see if there is anything for the 'Barnett' family? My great great grandad came from there - he was born in 1864 - Charles Barnett. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks again, Julie

Those Portland Whites might be the same family, just KV Saunders was wrong in the marriage of John and Mary. I've found a few mistakes too. It's all down to individual interpretation. Chloe

All i really need now is info on Elizabeth White know she married William Stone in 1868-9 and had a son William in 1869 on 1871 census she is a widow and has her mum and various lodgers cant find either her or son on 1881 so either died or she remarried, finding her sister Marys marriage would be a nightmare Kazzie

Kazzie - maybe I wasn't clear enough. In Portland, there might well have been a marriage between a John White and a MAry Comben, and the children that KV Saunders found... he just assumed that John White and Mary Comben were the parents, when in fact they might well have moved away and another John and Mary moved in.... make sense???? As for finding more - confused as to what you're asking for. Lots of Whites in Portland so going to need forenames and dates etc. As for Claxton, these are the only records that are on the disc. From Abbotsbury so might well be related somehow. 9 Mch 1885 Charles Richard of Christopher & Susan CLAXTON Abbotsbury; Farmer &c; (bn 1 Feb 85); J PICKLES 15 Jan 1874 Linna? Emily of Christopher & Susan CLAXTON Abbotsbury; Carrier; (bn 19 Dec 73); J C LITTLEY WW2 Memorial - CLAXTON Reginald A As for my Tobys - still not found them on the 1841. I already knew they weren't in Portland..... they must be about somewhere!! Chloe

Kazzie Report 24 Apr 2005 20:27

Just to say Chloe after telling another relative on the Claxton side about your find said she also had white conections and after checking a gedcom file she was sent did show it was Mary Claxton marrying a John White not Mary Comben so anything else you can find on these would be great, did you manage to find your Tobys? Kazzie

McDitzy Report 21 Apr 2005 22:41

Kazzie - remember that the reconstructed families might well be wrong, it is what KV Saunders thought went together. Maybe this John White and Mary Comben that he mentioned married moved away but he assumed that they stayed. Chloe

Nothing on the reconstructed families (goes up to 1844), or marriages in Portland. How old was he when he married Elizabeth? I can't even find the baptism of William Stone Jnr. The parish church baptism records seem to only go up to 1841, I'm afraid. Sorry I didn't realise..... most of my stuff starts at 1801. Is the White family I found the right one?? There are a few generations back on this CD too, if you want that. What was William's father's name? Might be able to see if there's more info.
