hmmm it does happen, try calling the family liason people in the navy, her dad was listed as being in the marines? they may well be able to pinpoint where he was based, there were very few marines back then.... might not be as hard as you think. maybe her birth was not uk? if he was a serving man... she might have been born elsewhere. the military will be better placed to make a more modern association between emily dorothy and benjamin williams

Know what you mean my great uncle , my fathers uncle.

We knew him as uncle jack nash

and my grandfather as hector gubbins nash

They were army births

and most sibling not born in this country

I had g father marriage cert. his father was on that and he was chef at barracks

hector was in the 2nd battalion lancashire regiment

and so it turned out was charles his dad.

Couldn't find hector s birth anywhere

I knew when and where he was born sent for a trace of a hector gubbin nash

no joy.

Then after sending for a death certificate of uncle jacks wife because we knew where she lived and died

And who should he husband be but Horace Charles nash

right address ect.

so rechecked the army births and baptisms

and lo an behold the of charles and sarah nash

fitting in with the other children born in this country/

Same army number.

My grandad was wrongly registered

as Charles Bertram Nash,

father Charles Bertram

Instead of hector gubbins nash

Would he not be able to give him over to his sister then without some sort of involvement with SS

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 4 Sep 2007 03:28

tried the local paper for obituries? if the death was as tragic as it sounds it may have made local news? or at least some kind of memorial notice put in?

I wonder how common it was for someone to add a name but it isn't there official or baptised name

WayneTracey Report 4 Sep 2007 03:26

well if i were you i'd talk to the church she's buried in

You need to ask who booked and paid for the plot. That may give you some clue as to whats happened. have you thought of local social services for where the child was born? He couldn;t even then just hand the child over, there may well be adoption papers, giving the mothers full details of birth etc.
