Iam trying to find the date of death of my grandfather he may be William Walker or William Webb and he died in Paddock Lane,Aldridge,Walsall,Staffordshire sometime betweeen 1949 and 1956. Other occupants in the house included his brother Alfred and wife Florence. Many thanks Brenda |

As you know his address, the best way of cutting down on the time frame might be to check electoral lists for that address and see when he is no longer listed. You would need to still give a margin of about a year, as it would be a while after his death that the lists were updated. |

why the surname confusion? |

The reason why there is a surname confusion is because i was led to believe that he was a Walker (his marriage certificate and army records back that up)But over the last few days thanks to some excellent work by various people on this site we know have reason to believe it may be Webb and he was the son of the wife before they wed |

If he took his stepfathers name for his Army and marriage I would think who ever registered his death would also use that name |

Jonesy, Thank you for your info I think that may well be the right date the reason being that I remember him vaguely when i was growing up but the relationship between him and mom was strained and i didnt see him too much, I only found out about the Paddock Lane address last night. |
