Rowena

There are about 10 images on Ancestry and they are not in very good condition but it does give his date of marriage and the DOBs of the two children:
Marriage - Tadcaster, 17/9/1910
Florence M - 12/03/1913 - Thomas 21/6/1915.

Quite a lot of men who had been in the war never talked about it and the children would have been very young when he was discharged in 1919.

Thanks Germaine for the information.

Thomas never talked about his family and that is why we (or I) can never get anywhere, it seems.

Rowena/Germaine

I think there is something not quite right about that 1901 census - mother, Lydia aged 70!

I have checked the Brewerton births, Bradford 1886. There are 2 Charlie & Elijah & I can find both of them with their parents

Rowena

I said it was rather mixed up :-).
I think Lydia was the grandmother she was head of the household though Blanch down as Hesling and granddaughter and William down as Brewerton Grandson.
What makes me think it is the same family is that you mentioned Henry dying and Emma didn't want the kids with her. So looks like she left them with her mother. Will look and see if Lydia was her mother.

No Thomas & I checked the full BMD not just the indexed bit

Potty

Potty Report 24 Feb 2008 15:51

William should be grandson (transcriber missed the ditto tick) of Lydia in the 1901 and Blanche is granddaughter. All the rest are unmarried children of Lydia.

Germaine

Germaine Report 24 Feb 2008 15:53

Yes I think this is her in 1881.
It looks to me that Thomas might have wanted to forget his past and changed his name from William and took a couple of years off. Only a thought.

Oh and in 1891 the Helsings are on the previous page so I would think only a few doors away from the Brewertons. No sign of a Thomas

Think possibly you are right Germaine. I did check Lydia in 1891 to see if Thomas was with her (mistranscribed somehow) as Emma had just had William but he's not there. Could possibly be with his Brewerton grandparents.

Rowena

Did you day you have Henry and Emma's marriage cert? If so, what was Henry's father's name?

Rowena

Rowena Report 24 Feb 2008 16:10

On Henry and Emma Marriage cerificate is this: They got married 2nd May 1885. Henry's father is Jesse Brewerton and Emma father is William. They got married at the parish church of Bierely.

Rowena

With what you said at the end of page 2 is correct. Emma dumped her kids with the Grandmother, when Emma remarried but I don't know what the Grandmother's name was.

Germaine

Germaine Report 24 Feb 2008 16:15

Just looked think I had the right ones and no no Thomas with Jesse Brewertn in eiter 1891 or 1901.
Leaning more to him being William.
Germaine

Yes Rowena it certainly looks that way that could be why he changed from William to Thomas and maybe with living with Grandmother eventually got his age wrong.
