Problem hope nice person can help. I have Thomas Lambert born 1849/50 in Little Bentley,Tendring,Essex. 1861 census with parents James b.1806 and Mary b.c.1808. There were 7 children in all, Thomas being the youngest. All 6 other members of the family I have found their partners and their children. 1871 census Thomas still living with parents and also in the register is Elizabeth Lambert, daughter in law,age 22, This must be wife of Thomas. 1881 census Thomas living with wife Hannah born Standford,Essex (no Standford in Essex) with 3 children, all born in Essex. 1891 census Thomas with wife Annie born Stamford, Yorks. with 8 children. 1901 census Thomas with wife Hannah still in Tendring. Hannah birthplace Stamford,Yorks. and living in Yorks.
Can I assume as Annie spoken could be taken for Hannah and Standford Essex a mistake by the person collecting the census. The children all the way through census records match up. Although there is a record of the marriage of Thomas and Elizabeth in 1871 and a death of Elizabeth Lambert in 1873 I cannot find record of Thomas and Hannah apart from m.c. in 1871 (cant be right) 1911 census Thomas on his own living Argents Farm Hornchurch Essex. Are these details all too much of a coincidence? am I on completely the wrong track. Have been on this problem for weeks am sure a lovely person out there will put me straight.
I am confused.

his wife was Elizabeth Ann Lamb.
Its possible he called her Annie so its the same lady as the 1891 census, the birth cert for Minnie should clarify things.

My paternal gran was Emma Ann but her second husband called her Annie so thats the name he reg for her whenever he was giving info. ie on their eldest two children births reg by him mums name is given as Annie

so who is Elizabeth on the 1871 census DIL of James & Mary ?

that ties with the 1871 marriage of Thomas Lambert to Elzabeth Ann Lamb.

Valerie has Thomas a widower on his own on 1911 census.

I think we are talking two different families here.

Valere which Lambert are you decended from ? I think you may have crossed two families infos

Mary

Many thanks for all the replies re Thomas Lambert. Occupation for Thomas is Agricultural Labourer. Thankyou Shirley for suggesting Elizabeth Ann could be the Annie in 1891 census but there is a 10 year age difference between Annie and Elizabeth. I still feel I have the right family as all the children match up as you go into each census from 1881 to 1901. I accept the m.c. of Elizabeth and Thomas inTendring Essex in 1871 and the death of Elizabeth in \Tendring 1873. But I still cant find a m.c. for Thomas and Hannah which would have been in between 1873 and 1881. I think unless anyone has any ideas I will have to back track on a lot of my info.

Been looking through the census...I don`t think the 1911 Thomas Lambert living in the Barn in Essex is your Thomas ...I think its the unmarried one { it does say he`s single not widowed} who gives his birthplace as Little Bentley Essex through most of the census`s.

.It may be worth getting the death cert for Thomas Lambert in 1910 in York that Mary posted for confirmation...

So what about the info I posted??

You said Hannah in 1911 was in Yorks so why isn't the one I posted the same as yours???

Please could you post the info you have census's etc and the children of your Thomas and Hannah so I can rule in or out what I have found.

The first child of Thomas and Hannah ,Arthur was born Stamford Bridge 1877 probably before marriage.

info as requested:
James Lambert 1806 and Mary c1808 had the following children:
John 1831
Eliza 1839
Mary 1832
Charlotte 1836
George 1841
William 1843
Thomas 1849/50
all the above born in Little Bentley, Tendring, Essex.
with the exception of Thomas have traced all the others with spouses and children.
re ||Thomas
1861 census with parents and 1 brother William
1871 census still with parents at Cross Rd Manningtree
also listed is Elizabeth Lambert daughter in law age 22
1881 census with wife Hannah age 22 and children
Arthur 1877, James 1879, Emily 1881 all born Tendring area
Hannah gives her birthplace as Standford Essex
living Cross Rd, Manningtree
1891 census with wife Annie age 35 birthplace Yorks with children
Arthur 1877 born Yorks, James 1879 Lawford, Essex.
Emily 1881, Mary 1883, Ellen 1885, Clara 1887, Florence 1889,
Minnie 1891, all born Essex.
living Cottage, Farm Road, Manningtree, Essex.
1901 census living with wife Hannah age 44 born Yorks (age and birthplace fits with Annie) with children Florence 1889, Minnie 1891,
Thomas 1894, Frederick 1898 cjildren all born Essex in the Manningtree area. living in the village, Flaxton,Yorks.

children all fit from census to census which is too much to be a coincidence. I therefore feel they started out in Essex area and then moved to birthplace of wife i.e. Yorks. Could there be mistakes in the census records?
Many thanks to Mary and anyone else out there in helping me solve this.

Hello again
reference ll the above I now have the marrige cert of Thomas Lambert and Hannah Yeoman. They were maried in Yorkshire in 1877. I feel this is the right family as all details fit. Thomas father, James and occupation. Hannah born out of wedlock so no name of father. Thomas states he was a batchelor. But in the 1871 census Thomas is living in Essex with parents also listed is Elizabeth Lambert daughter in law. Marriage cert for Thomas and Elizabeth in 1871 and death cert for Elizabeth in 1873, no trace of a child. Why would Thomas put batchelor on mc to Hannah? mistake? It must be the right family also as all the children fit
Arthur born in Yorkshire in 1877, all other children from 1881 to 1901
census born in essex. They then moved back to Yorkshire in the 1901
census. Essex to Yorkshire to meet and marry Hannah in the 1800's was
quite a distance to travel, any suggestions as to why he would move that far? He was an Ag. Labourer.
