Please does anyone know where these are kept, and can I get easy access to them online for free. This is for British people, not the local people.
Also, if a civilian was killed at sea duiring the last war, where would a record of their death be found.
Many,many thanks

The CWGC site may have the civilian death record.

If the Penang births were Military or reg at the British Embassy then they should show on Find My Past

If you haven't got FMP then can take a look if you care to give details

Julia Report 19 Mar 2012 13:17

Thanks Shirley, both people who possibly died in Penenag were British, who first decided to live in Singapore, and then moved to Penang, and had nothing to do with the military.

Thanks

do you have FMP?

if so put the names in search and span down to the deaths section. select overseas death if it shows any.

If you find a ref then order through GRO as usual but specify overseas death and the order form adjusts to take the GRO ref given

Also if you find the CWGC one you can get a copy of the death cert from the same section

Margaret Eliza Wells Webster Turner, b 1864 St Gidding Hunts. Sometimes just uses the name Eliza Turner, sometimes Margaret Turner. Put on a ship bound for Australia c1942 from Singapore, only for the ship to be sunk by the Japanese Navy, on it's journey. Family story is she may have married a Mr Leighton.
Eleanor Annie Turner b 1867 Whittlesey Cambs married in 1897 to
William John D Trengrove b 1874
They went to Singapore first, then on to Penang, where William was high up in the Freemasons.
This is probably all I know.
Again many thanks

Shirley, I have a feeling she went out to Singapore after the Trengroves, because she went to work for them in their music shop, if that is any help.

Many Thanks

Thank you borth Shirley and Thelma.

Shirley, that is her and Thelma, that is them.
Thanks to both of you for your efforts.
A couple of years ago, a rellie went to both Singapore and Penang, to see if they could find anything, but it was fruitless in both cases.
