My g.g granparents were Hugh Darcy and Mary Darcy (Ferguson). Mary was born around 1881 in Co Donegal based on the 1901 census, but i can find no records for the Ferguson family. Any assistance please.

KempinaPartyhat Report 1 Jan 2013 20:19

do you have a marriage date?

Mark Report 1 Jan 2013 20:39

no, i have not found any marriage information. i know their first child was born around 1899 and that my g.granmother was born in 1902. i assume they married around 1898.

KempinaPartyhat Report 1 Jan 2013 20:43

Never assume anything .....I,m not brilliant at this but I can find any marriage !

which census do you have then?

Mark Report 1 Jan 2013 20:52

i have them on the 1901 census, but can not find them on the 1911 census. i have my g.granmothers birth record, which gave me the Ferguson name. Thats when i run in to a dead end.

KempinaPartyhat Report 1 Jan 2013 20:54

what is your great grandmothers name ?

Mark Report 1 Jan 2013 21:03

mary darcy, born 29/08/1902

KempinaPartyhat Report 1 Jan 2013 22:08

and her sister is ?

Mark Report 1 Jan 2013 22:30

not sure Mary had a sister, or i have not found one. she did have brothers, Hugh (1899) and Joseph (1900).

GlasgowLass Report 1 Jan 2013 23:47

On the 1901 census of Donegal..
Did you notice where the son Hugh was born?... It says GLASGOW
The birth of Hugh Darcy is registered 1898 Govan, Lanarkshire.
If you obtain this birth record from Scotlands People, the parents marriage details should be on it!
NB: Marriage not found in Scotland

Mark Report 2 Jan 2013 00:21

i have the civil birth record for Mary (my g.granmother and Hugh's sister) from 1902, which records her mother as Mary Ferguson. it is the Ferguson line i'm having no luck in finding.

GlasgowLass Report 2 Jan 2013 01:00

Found them... They were mistranscribed as DAVY
Son Hugh has correct place of birth

thank you for this. slightly freaked at the date of the wedding, 19th Nov, being that is also my birthday!

GlasgowLass Report 2 Jan 2013 21:09

Glad to help Mark.
Well done Maura.
Dates are freaky... I know.
From my Irish roots my g grandmother and my gg grandmother ( her mother in law) both died very young and both in childbirth.
They died on the same date, but 23 years apart.
I gave birth to my own daughter on this date, exactly 100yrs & 123yrs after their deaths
