OneFootInTheGrave Report 14 Jan 2013 09:27

While searching Scotlands People for details of a Michael Clusker born 1894 the son of Patrick Clusker and Carragher I found his Death Certificate, he died in Bangour Hospital in 1950 and at the time of his death he resided at Cleghorn Drive
in Broxburn.

His Death Certificate shows he was married to an Anne O'Donnell, however I cannot find any details of this marriage.

He may have emigrated to Canada or the USA, however he was present at Cowdenbeath in Scotland in 1917 as he was a witness at the marriage of his cousin Stephen Clusker on 01/06/1917.

I would welcome any help in finding out as much as I can about Michael Clusker and Anne O'Donnell and also their children.

Thanks,

James

Who registered his death?

Why do you think he may have emigrated?

Any evidence to support the theory?

ErikaH Report 14 Jan 2013 10:45

No record of emigration on FMP or Ancestry

Have you looked for/found him in 1911?

Hi Reggie - Happy New Year,

1) In the early 1900's many of the family were back and forward like a yo-yo to the USA

2) The informant was the son, can't quite make it out, Manus, Marcus Clusker

3) He is on the 1901 Scotland Census but no trace on 1911

Regards,

James

Hi Anne,

Found it, it is showing his name as Michael Joseph Clusker, and what I was doing wrong was searching on exact christian name Michael as that was the only christian name on both his Birth Certificate and Death Certificate, so don't know where the Joseph came from :-S

Thanks,

James

OneFootInTheGrave Report 11 May 2013 13:33

At the beginning of January this year with much appreciated assistance from GlasgowLass (Anne), I managed to obtain the marriage certificate for Anne O'Donnell and Michael Joseph Clusker.

My eyesight leaves much to be desired due to cataracts, but my reading of their marriage certificate is, that they married in Uphall, West Lothian, Scotland, in 1925 and Anne's age is given as 26, her parents look like they are Manus O'Donnell and Ellen McAfferty.

My problem is that here I am 4 months on and I have been unable to find her birth certificate and if she had any siblings.

However, I have obtained a copy of a 1911 Scotland Census with a Manus and Ellen O'Donnell and their family on it, but I am no expert and at my age I get easily confused and end up going down the wrong path :-S

Can anyone help me with this - thank you

Helen

OneFootInTheGrave Report 11 May 2013 14:48

Hello Helen, thanks for that, but don't think it fits.

Manus's occupation is given as a Shale Miner, and I have found quite a few references to an Anne or Annie O'Donnell's on SP between 1895/1905.

The only one that looks like it fits, is the one on the 1911 census below, to add to that I have just downloaded the birth certificate for a James O'Donnell born 1903 in Uphall West Lothian and he has the same parents as are shown on Anne's marriage certificate.

Scotland Census 1911

Manns O'Donnell 1871 M Ireland Head
Ellen O'Donnell 1863 F Ireland Wife
Patrick O'Donnell 1894 M Ireland Son

My best wishes to you both.

OneFootInTheGrave Report 12 May 2013 12:34

I have now updated my tree to include the O'Donnell family, but I am no further forward in finding the birth details for Anne/Annie O'Donnell who married Michael Joseph Clusker.

I am not sure what, if anything, I am doing wrong in trying to find her birth details, she is shown as the daughter of Manns/Manus O'Donnell in this census and as having been born in Uphall.

1911 ODONNELL MANNS M 40 UPHALL/WEST LOTHIAN 672/00 001/00 037

And on this, her Marriage Certificate, my reading is that her parents were Manus O'Donnell and Ellen McClafferty(?)

1925 CLUSKER MICHAEL JOSEPH O'DONNELL ANNIE UPHALL/WEST LOTHIAN 672/00 0066

Over the past two weeks I have purchased around 120 credits and I have used the bulk of these, without success, in trying to find the birth certificate for Anne/Annie O'Donnell.

Any idea as to what I may be doing wrong, or what else I can do, as a pensioner, I cannot afford to continue wasting SP credits like this.

When I look at her family, her parents were born in Ireland, as were 3 of her brothers and 1 of her sisters, her other 3 siblings I have confirmed were all born in the Uphall area of West Lothian, and looking at the date of the last sibling born in Ireland and then the dates of the siblings born in Scotland, I am wondering if maybe she was in fact born in Ireland and not Scotland.

Manns O'Donnell 1866 M Ireland
Ellen O'Donnell 1864 F Ireland
Patrick O'Donnell 1894 M Ireland
Henry Joseph O'Donnell 1897 M Ireland
Peter O'Donnell 1898 M Ireland
Mary Bridget O'Donnell 1898 F Ireland
Anne O'Donnell 1900 F Uphall Scotland ??? :-S
Katie O'Donnell 1901 F Uphall Scotland
Marjory O'Donnell 1901 F Uphall Scotland
James O'Donnell 1903 M Uphall Scotland

Any thoughts and input on this is welcomed,

Regards,

James
