thats really useful information

my relative says elizabeth had at least two husbands and im wondering if this is elizabeth on her second marriage

1915 toxteth park
elizabeth boswell married stanley s warburton

perhaps thomas arthur boswell died young like his father or went back to the usa

lancashireAnn Report 11 Mar 2013 22:45

sorry not that one as Elizabeth's father in that case was a Thomas Boswell

Name: Elizabeth Boswell
Birth Year: abt 1891
Age: 24
Marriage Date: 7 Aug 1915
Parish: Toxteth St Silas
Spouse's Name: Stanley Sefton Warburton
Father's Name: Thomas Boswell
Spouse Father's Name: Samuel Warburton

Flip Report 12 Mar 2013 02:06

If the US army draft card is correct, it named Elizabeth as wife & nok, it is dated September 1918 - which would indicate they were still together in the US.

david Report 12 Mar 2013 06:10

i didnt mention in my original post but my elderly relation mentioned the name "johnny boswell" so this would confirm monk/boswell marriage

Flip Report 12 Mar 2013 06:18

That Johnny is likely their son, from the christening in 1906 previously posted.

I think he was in the merchant navy, there are lots of crew lists with him mentioned. Think he married and died in Barrow in Furness - so probably didn't settle in America with his parents, or he came back at some point.

david Report 12 Mar 2013 08:10

it has just occurred to me why elizabeth came back to liverpool in 1905/6

her mother catherine monk (nee bulger) died at that time

i have never been able to find catherine monks death certificate

catherine gave birth to thomas monk in 1905 and perhaps she died in childbirth

perhaps elizabeth came back for the funeral

Pam Report 12 Mar 2013 09:03

Is it possible that this is Catherine's death ?

david Report 12 Mar 2013 14:29

yes i think this is the death of catherine monk

december 1905 liverpool

catherine Monk (nee bulger was born 1859) in liverpool so she would be aged 45 at death

probably the reason elizabeth boswsll came home from america for the funeral

Isn't it more likely they went to visit Thomas's mother in America for a short time and just came back but later decided to emigrate?

It would be very difficult to get news of a death to them, arrange passage home and get back in time for a funeral - unless there was a lengthy delay between death and burial.

david Report 13 Mar 2013 21:24

i think you are right flip

far more practical than me lol

david Report 13 Mar 2013 21:37

1930 marriage bolton

elizabeth boswell marries emmanuel bradley

so what has happened to thomas boswell ?

david Report 13 Mar 2013 21:41

John Arthur Boswell born 31st August, 1906 dies Barrow in Furness May 1998 age 91

Flip Report 15 Mar 2013 19:33

Hi David, you can't be sure about the Bolton marriage for Elizabeth without a certificate to confirm it - unless your elderly relative remembers more about her husbands.

A tree on Ancestry had a death for Thomas, in US sometime in the 1940s (sorry I'm away all week and can't remember exact details), but after looking at the death they connected to I don't think they have the right person - birth quarter/year match, but he was not Thomas Arthur, he was Thomas John according to the burial record.

I guess you've found Cumbriabmd for John Arthur's death, in that case you should also be able to find his marriage and children - married in Barrow, 3 children born there - you can search with mmn to find them.

lancashireAnn Report 15 Mar 2013 23:32

I would be tempted to say the 1930's marriage was not your Elizabeth Monk. THere are a few Elizabeth Boswells around

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1930
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BOSWELL Elizabeth BRADLEY Emmanuel Bolton Register Office or Registrar Attended Bolton RO/221/102

On lancs bmd frequently if it is a second marriage the previous name is also shown in the index - not always but it could be used as an indication

However if you do order the certificate if you stand Elizabeth's father's name and it is not correct they will refund your money., but the name has to be exactly what is written on the certificate

david Report 16 Mar 2013 06:18

hi everyone

when i made my initial query on this board i did not reveal my great aunts information which was

the names

"boswel" and "bradley"," johhny boswel" and she knew uncle emmanuel

my aunt lives in bolton

she also said johnny boswell came from cumbria

my great aunt was born in 1940 so elizabeth must have been living well into her 60s

she also said elizabeth was "a good laugh" and she liked "cowboy films"

david Report 16 Mar 2013 06:21

sorry what is mmn ?

"search with mmn to find them"

patchem Report 16 Mar 2013 06:47

Mother's maiden name.

Flip Report 16 Mar 2013 08:43

John A Boswell married Ethel M Leech in 1928, Ethel died in 1980, I think they had 2 sons and a daughter between 1928 and 1941, but I won't post their details as they may be still alive. You can find them on Cumbriabmd, and their youngest son may still be living in Barrow.
