I will be going to the library today so I will try and find a birth certificate for William Henry, patchem, I think September 1890 is the correct Emily :-)

jansmith Report 16 Mar 2013 08:58

If you haven't got a childs birth cert it might be an idea to get a "safe" one i.e perhaps Emily if you think that is the right one to see what details it gives for dad and mothers maiden name

jansmith

jansmith Report 16 Mar 2013 09:06

perhaps this has already been posted

Births Mar 1862
PROCTOR William Henry Sheffield 9c 332

Thomas

Thomas Report 16 Mar 2013 09:29

No jan I don't think that has been posted, by any chance would that be the birth register, and I still don't underhand what a safe birth certificate is.

patchem

patchem Report 16 Mar 2013 09:32

Jan probably means to get a certificate that you are sure is for one of the children, so that you do not get a 'wrong' one and start looking for the wrong parents.

You have to apply for the birth certificates:

jansmith Report 16 Mar 2013 09:39

sorry Thomas I was just meaning a birth cert that would be a right one so as not to waste money in ending up with one that might not be your family.
William Henry birth posted above is the index needed to get a cert. from GRO that I gave you the link for . You can get the certs from the reg. office for Sheffield if that is easier but the vol. and page numbers are not their entry numbers you would need to ask them for birth William Proctor March quarter 1862

Thomas

Thomas Report 16 Mar 2013 09:49

Thank you patchem I will check one of the kids, also jan write his birthday as march, I thought it was December.

jansmith

jansmith Report 16 Mar 2013 09:59

If you remember I explained this was the quarter it was registered so if he was born late Dec. his parents may not have registered it until Jan. so it would be registered in the Jan- March qtr. The cert will show the actual date of birth

Thomas

Thomas Report 16 Mar 2013 10:24

Thomas

Thomas Report 16 Mar 2013 12:51

I've only found birth registers which are not much use to me, is there any way of finding a birth certificate? :-)

jansmith

jansmith Report 16 Mar 2013 12:59

I have been told that David Procter is wrong and the name Proctor is spelt differently but that could have been heard wrong but that isnt the correct one
