Change the order of the threads so the last post is under the original post. Some threads are so long it is rediculous

jax 24 Aug 2012 18:41

Nanasue

Click" post date" to read the last post first

Not everyone wants to see it like this as it would be difficult to follow a conversation

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NB I shall not respond to the original poster again; I do not appreciate my time being wasted nor that of other people..

Maybe it was because I replied to you NS

I am sure you would'nt be interested in anything useful I had to say anyway

But then what do I know? I certainly do not claim to be an IT expert, but I know how to use the boards

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 9 May 2013 12:21

Have to say that as don't recollect any other post about the subject suppose I'll have to admit old age is catching me.

No offence intended to anyone - nor is it about stealing anybodies thunder but what does it really matter if posts are repeated anyway.

IGP

You may use the boards as you wish.......but please don't try to impose your preferences on others.

As you don't (as far as I can tell) venture beyond this board, your experience is by definition somewhat limited

And there is no basis in fact for your statement that people on here claim to be 'experts'.............in my experience, the reverse is actually the case.

Re
"At the office last Tues, I asked Estelle about those old posts being revived and those with many pages.

She showed me that you can change the order of posts just my clicking on the Post Date link at the top of a thread.

Now tried and tested - if you click on it you can read the last page posts - the reverse you can read the original.

Hope this info is helpful to some members - quite aware some will already be aware."

The original poster still does not seem to have seen / acknowledged my response that she was advised about this in the suggestions board in August last year. As the original poster already knew how to view the most recent and oldest posts before Estelle showed her how to do it, I am tempted to ask for this thread to be removed.

The apparently endless nit-picking and berating from members who claim to be the 'experts' on here is becoming rather tiresome.

As far as my last post on this this particular thread is concerned, I find that for 80% of the time I re-sort so the most recent post is at the top. Hence, my preference for the default. Ok?

I expect IGP and NanaSue, were not looking at the board when EXACTLY what they are suggesting happened, accidentally when GR was tinkering? it made absolutely no sense.

You don't read a book by looking at the title and then working back from the last page, and 'reading a book' is not dis-similar to certain threads esp' on FA as you do have to start at the beginning to make sense of the final posts.

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 9 May 2013 09:26

Does it really matter whether the post at the top is first or last? You've still got to work out where you last left the thread.

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 9 May 2013 08:34

InspectorGreenPen - have to agree - but for now, after reading the original post, by clicking the post date tag, one can immediately go the the last page and read the latest comments before saying anything.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 8 May 2013 15:38

I would prefer it left as it is so that the Team do not start work on it and make something else not work properley

Rambling

Rambling Report 8 May 2013 15:35

If that were the case though IGP

You might get a header saying "What have you done today?"

immediately followed by the last post saying

"monster munch!" ....which would clearly not make sense to anyone who had just come to the board..

Or

"searching for Joe Bloggs 1846"

followed by a post saying

"Smith family in 1911"

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 8 May 2013 15:18

In my view it would make things much easier if the default was to automatically show the most recent post at the top.

NanaSue, did you not read my post of 6 May 2013 15:03? - in which I quoted the text, in August last year, where you had already been advised about this matter.

Hyperlinks are so very important to anybody involved with Genealogy and the helpers more so. :-) :-) :-)

Renes Report 6 May 2013 20:19

Oh ....

So, if the content and accuracy of the OP are irrelevant and inaccurate

and are merely posted to get members to post correction and/or amendments

- or as you put it talking

I would consider that odd ........ yes definitely odd

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 6 May 2013 20:10

My threads are to get peope talking - nothing more and nothing less.

Odd really .....

Nothing of the sort!!

I think it so strange that on the many threads NanaSue starts ...

That prove to contain erroneous comments or instructions in the OP Are never returned too, or concluded by NanaSue

Odd really .....

I admit to being a rubbish proofreader, I leave that to someone else in my working life, if keeps them in a job as official Toots proofreader ;-)
