JoonieCloonie Report 24 Jul 2015 13:28

I had posted the info that the daughters were in the Children's Aid Shelter in 1916 ...

I would agree that the marriage to Powell seems likely for daughter Clara Josephine born 1900 in Winnipeg

for info, in one of the many other threads, I believe it was pointed out that Skibbereen is actually in Co Cork and not Tipperary so the Irish censuses seem correct

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skibbereen

however the father in that Irish Courtney-Sullivan marriage is Sullivan

and the brother in the censuses is Kelleher

... so it's a little confused ...

The rego district for Skibbereen is Skibbereen - Skibbereen is abt 65km SW of Cork and abt 20km SE of Bantry.
Although Wm's attestation has been altered to show his yob=1876, the original year before alteration was 1873.

There is a 1911 census aid showing which streets various subditricts (EDs in UK terminology) cover:
http://www.mhs.mb.ca/data/census/1911/winnipeg/
There are also a couple of maps there, both orientated such that N is at right edge.
http://www.mhs.mb.ca/data/census/1911/winnipeg/winnipeg1920.jpg
Donald & Assiniboine is 4 blocks W of Main, just N of the Assiniboine R.
Patrick crosses Logan 8 blks W of Main. Henry is one blk N of Logan, and 461 is at the junction of Patrick & Logan.
Redwood Bridge crosses the Red R abt 2km N of Logan (although one might think it's the Hespelier Ave Bridge based on the 1920 map).
Arlington is 9 blks W of Main - Manitoba & Pritchard are 5 & 6 blks S of Arlington.

Wm's CEF service file contains some puzzles.
I think you should try and find his pre-WW1 record on FMP/GR's
British Army Service Records 1760-1915
There's 41 hits for W/William Courtney.
It's a puzzle to me when he served - I guess the 7y with the Poyal Irish Fusiliers was around 1891-1898, but when he did 3y with the RFA is a mystery.
On p 17 of the record, on 17/8/1916 he says his mum was Ellen McNulty Courtney - she's a widow living in "Skipperine Co Tipperary".
So who was she? Searching in 1911 Tipperary gets no hits at:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

However, there is a Co Cork hit:

The date is wrong for Wm's birth, so maybe Ellen's his step-mum.

The suggested imigration record was posted earlier in the thread. Here is the relevant part again

First name(s) WILLIAM
Last name COURTNEY
Gender Male
Age 18
Birth year 1873
Marital status S
Occupation BLACKSMITH
Departure year 1891
Departure day 21
Departure month 8
Departure port LONDONDERRY
Destination port NEW YORK
Destination NEW YORK
Country United States
Ship name CITY OF ROME

So it left Londonderry on 21 Aug 1891 and docked in New York.

A link to the Canadian military records was posted on one of your other threads. This is the link. Just click on it to take you to the site. Apparently it will take a while to load
http://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?op=pdf&app=CEF&id=B2054-S008

It's possible that his UK service records aren't on line, or have been lost/destroyed
The following link leads to the National Archive site
http://tiny.cc/utgw0x
It talks about Muster and Pay Rolls which can be used to trace the service of soldiers who served in the British Army between around 1730 and 1898 but who were not discharged to pension. They are NOT on line.

The Military Record thread is

If you are 'missing' information because you find reading threads confusing, why not print them out then if necessary cut the page into individual posts and put them in order.

Dolores, the confusion is caused by the multitude of threads that you have posted about this person, not all of them with the same details.

The main rule on this site is not to post more than one thread about the same person.

I have no idea what thread this relates to, or whether there have been more threads posted while I was looking, or whether anyone has sorted out WHO Dolores is looking for, or whether this has already been posted ................

the 1901 household in Manitoba posted above was

Wm J. Courtney 27
Clara Courtney 21
Clara Courtney 0

that household is still present in the 1906 census + younger daughter Maud

in 1916 the two daughters are in a Children's Aid Shelter in Winnipeg

Name: Maud Courtney
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Age: 13
Est. Birth Year: 1903
Birthplace: Manitoba
Home in 1916: 10, Winnipeg South, Manitoba
Address: No, 101, Mayfair Ave
Racial or Tribal Origin: English

Name: Clara Courtney
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Age: 15
Est. Birth Year: 1901
Birthplace: Manitoba
Home in 1916: 10, Winnipeg South, Manitoba
Address: No, 101, Mayfair Ave
Racial or Tribal Origin: English

this suggests that the father was in the military per the records cited above (mother was Ellen, wife was Josephine Clara) but where the mother had got to is the question since it appears from the military records that she was living in 1916

no subsequent marriage or death is recorded for any of the parents or daughters in Manitoba

is there some possibility that Dolores will return to at least one of her threads and give some clear and correct information?

name of William, known facts about him, ...

and do it by posting in the ADD YOUR REPLY box at the bottom of the thread and not by sending another private message to someone ............
