Middy Report 4 Feb 2024 09:25

Good Morning

Would you be able to help to locate two children that I have had no joy in finding.

They are both on the 1901 Census - May Durrant (aged 10) and Victor Durrant (aged 7) both in the Workhouse at this point.

Their parents are Edward Ottaway Durrant & Celia Jane Whitehead.

If I can provide any more information, please let me know.

Many thanks for your time

Kay????

Middy Report 4 Feb 2024 11:39

Hi Kay

As far as I know they are all Celia's children - it does appear that some children used there middle name on some docs so I have requested the birth certificates for five of them just to confirm they are who I think they are

It is really Victor and Cecilia May that I cannot find their births - I can find a baptism for Cecilia in 1891 but no birth record - and can find nothing for Victor

So weird how some are registered but others a mystery

Thanks all for helping, it is really appreciated

I think they may stay a mystery for a while longer

Have a lovely Sunday

Kay???? Report 4 Feb 2024 12:07

I am thinking that they were grouped together by Barnados and classed as brothers and sisters as Edith sems to have Whitehead as MMN on GRO.but not the named Victor or Mary May ......they did then with HCH all manner of things that were not the truth and in part illegal.......

There's no Dorothy Durrant reg with MMN Whitehead,,

So true - so sad to think this went on

As far as I am aware it was only 3 out of the 7 children that were sent there - would always be nice to understand how some didn't as the youngest child Ivy was not sent and she ended up remaining in the UK as she is my other half's great nan

Victor G Durrant went in 1910 as a HC,

May 1910: Victor G. DURRANT - Ship Donation --- Source: Library and Archives Canada - Database Item Number: 233193,

3rd Agust 1905 depart ,,arrival 12 august Quebec.

Victor 1895 and Mary 1892 Durrant from Dover Union.

A DNA could hold many answers and cut research down.

ArgyllGran

"May" in 1901 census is presumably Cecilia May.

She's not with the family in 1891 census, so presumably born between April 5th 1891 and Dec 15th.
