Iam searching for the Army Record for a John Joseph O'Brien born 8th July 1881 in Castlebar Co Mayo.

I know he joined the British Army before WW1.

Thank you

Have you tried doing a free search of both ancestry and FindMyPast to see if there are records for anyone of that name?

Then you ask for a lookup for that particular record (or records).

As there is a query regarding which is his first name, John or Joseph...( see death reg, as per other thread) then can you please give some more info. Have you his parents' names please?

Best to keep to one thread about the same person, helpers will look for the information and not duplicate.

I have just seen the death record in 1948 Salisbury Wilts is a Joesph J,

I was told John Joseph died in Salisbury in 1948 by a relation 20yrs ago, a single man his father was Morgan Obrien and mother Ann Doyle he was born 8th July 1881 Castlebar Co Mayo.

I have looked at Genes military records and Ancestry for him, I didn't know about Find My Past free search.

Maureen ....

you can do a free search on almost any site, and that will tell you if a similar name can be found.

You just cannot see anything further .............. which is why I added that you then ask if one of the helpers can see more of that record.
