Ah -
so the travel record I posted for Louise M McMorran travelling from India to UK in 1926 can't be her either.

Nicki

Nicki Report 13 Nov 2017 15:32

It wouldnt appear so.

This is so frustrating.

I hope the Probate record is sent through quite quickly to see if there are any other clues on that.

Probate notice arrives and it refers to her as Mary commonly known as Maureen Louise - so I wonder if anyone is able to find a Mary McMorran birth please x

Thanks Kay, none of us ever knew her as Mary, always Maureen.

And the probate says Mary Jessop commonly known as Maureen Louise Jessop.

Can Clara or Charles be found on the in-comming passenger list which Ancestry have.to find when either of them returned.

Nicki

Nicki Report 18 Nov 2017 16:59

I will have a look but Charles McMorran was a soldier so am guessing he would have been sent back to UK whichever way the Armed Forces travelled.

Can't see any such travel record for either of them on Ancestry.

Nicki,

What documentation do you have linking Mary/Maureen to Charles and Clara if you havnt got any birth details for her.?

Where did Clara remarry?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Nov 2017 21:25

Nicki said Clara married Andrew O'Gorman on 30 June 1903 in India.

Nicki -
you also said,
"William Wallis married my grandmother - Kathleen Bride O'Gorman in Poona - who was Maureen's half sister."
But the 1931 Poona marriage record posted by Nyx gave William Wallis's bride's name as Mary O'Gorman.
Why the different name?

EDIT:

Ancestry has the bride as Catherine, not Mary:

William Wallis
in the India, Select Marriages, 1792-1948

FMP isnt showing Andrew O'gormans marriage.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Nov 2017 21:41

The marriage isn't on Ancestry, either.

If this is the right man, he was a widower when he died:

EDIT: No - surely this man is too old to have been Clara's husband?

There is a birth,

Catherine Phylis bapt 19th April 1913 at St Patricks Poona daughter of Andrew O'Gorman a travling agent and Clara Louisa..

Nicki

Nicki Report 20 Nov 2017 12:19

Andrew O'Gorman who died on 23 June 1929 was the father of the Andrew O'Gorman who married Clara Louise - They both died in Rhodesia in the sixties.

Phyllis was my grandmother's sister.

Years ago my father went to india and to St Patricks in Bangalore and noted the details of Andrew's & Clara's wedding entry.

If Andrew O'Gorman was a travling agent then its possible Clara could have gone with him as Charles Walter was in Devon England by March/April of 1901 when the census was taken.so him and Clara split before then.

Maureen/Mary could have been born anywhere..

Nicki

Nicki Report 20 Nov 2017 19:48

Andrew & Clara O'Gorman stayed in India from their marriage until 1947 and they had three girls, Kathleen Bride, Oona Erin Winifred and Catharine Phyllis.

On the census it says Charles McMorran was married. He died in 1902 and Clara married Andrew in 1903.

Thank you for trying, like you say she could have been born anywhere.

But no one knows when Charles came back to England, only that he was on 1901 census taken on 31 st March 1901 ,Clara was pregnant by Augt 1900.and could have been in a relationship with Andrew O'gorman for much longer ,hence Charles return and leaving his then wife in India..it says Andrew is a travling agent.which may have taken him out of India and Clara went with him. so Mary /Maureen may have been born anywhere.
.
By 1903 Clara was free to marry.

Nicki

Nicki Report 21 Nov 2017 08:39

Charles Walter McMorran returned to Plymouth on 26th April 1900 according to his diary which his great-great -grand daughter has.

I guess we will never know.

Thanks

Well if Clara remained in India in April 1900 Charles could not have been Mary/Maureens father.

I cant see a McMorra/Maile/O'Gorman in birth or baptism return in India that could be Mary.
