Ref Thomas Atkinson's occupation. He worked for Newcastle Council on the bins, then as a road sweeper.

David Report 2 Mar 2018 18:58

Oddly my Mother Ella Atkinson lived at 200 Portland Road following her
marriage in 1945

I apologise if my incomplete question is irksome.

David
, who were the parents of the children you name? Atkinson and Stewart or someone else? because even if your mother knew them as siblings if they were half siblings or born under mothers name only then it makes it difficult to track them.

Nyx, I only knew my aunts by their married names,
May Wharton

Ellen appears to have married Joseph Saints as Ellen Walker??

Marriages Mar 1928 (>99%)
Walker Ellen Saints Newcastle T. 10b 71

Which doesn't make much sense!

David Report 2 Mar 2018 19:50

Aunt Nellie was married to Archibald Saints (I think he was from Bermuda)
They had a son Richard and a daughter Dorothy who married Renick had two children then they divorced. Dorothy went on to be a nurse at the RVI Newcastle

The surname for Nellie and Margaret M is definitely Walker,

Marriages Mar 1939 (>99%)

Walker Margaret M Wharton Newcastle T. 10b 151
Wharton John Walker Newcastle T. 10b 151

the birth of the Wharton son in 1939 confirms it ( see freebmd) and the marriage of Nellie ( Ellen) to Saints ditto

Saints Joseph A A Walker Newcastle 3b 71

Joseph's middle name Archibald?

So somewhere /how there is a connection between these girls and your mother and the Atkinsons...but what it is I am not sure!?

Possibly??

Births Jun 1920 (>99%)

WALKER Margaret M Stewart Newcastle T 10b 266

Archibald Saints had been a sailor / mariner from Bermuda. I'm just going off long ago memory here. Think and Nellie separated. Nellie died in hospital.

David

David Report 2 Mar 2018 20:14

Only connection I'm aware of is same Father, different Mother.

Rambling Report 2 Mar 2018 20:16

To recap, Thomas and Janet, Ella, margaret M Wharton , Ethel Gustard ( with children) and Ellen Saints all at 186 Portland Rd on the 1939 Register.

Rambling

Rambling Report 2 Mar 2018 20:27

Re Dorothy and Richard Saints , they are both registered as having mother's maiden name Walker. So mother was definitely Ellen Walker.

Janet Atkinson my GM, died of bowel cancer in 1945.

Her funeral, embalming, hearse and other car, interment in All Saints Cemetery and notice in the local newspaper £24 - 10 shillings.
I had the CWS receipt. You could pay that for a bouquet these days.

David

David Report 2 Mar 2018 20:33

Well if you hadn't found that I'd insist their name was Saints
