I have only got my grandparents names to go on, no birth dates and no death dates. My grandmother is on my fathers birth certificate as Kate, but I know this could have been abbreviated. I am at loss to how to continue searching information. Anyone have any ideas for me to persue. Thanks in advance :-(

Your father's birth certificate should show your grandmother's maiden name, so you can then search for your grandparents' marriage. (https://www.freebmd.org.uk/ )

You can then get the certificate, which will give you more information, including both fathers' names and occupations. Depending on the dates, you can then search censuses to find other members of the families.

Good hunting. :-)

Thank you ArgyllGran, my father was called brian Wilson born 29th june 1933 in Manchester. His father was Wilfred Wilson and his mother was called kate Wilson(nee juckes), other than that I have no more information

For our reference - your father's birth:

Births Sep 1933 (>99%)
WILSON Brian (mms Juckes) Manchester N. 8d 731

So far, I'm not seeing a Wilson / Juckes marriage at all.

Did you know your grandparents at all? is it possible your grandmother wasn't born in the UK?

these are the only possible births I can see in England / Wales:

Births Mar 1897 (>99%)
Juckes Ethel Kate Shoreditch 1c 55

Births Dec 1917 (>99%)
Juckes Kathleen M mms Telford Worksop 7b 47

Births Jun 1916 (>99%)
Juckes Kathleen B Tarbuck Runcorn 8a 357

There are a couple with C as the middle initial, which might perhaps stand for Catherine - but they seem less likely, as she's officially Kate on your father's birth cert.

EDIT:

No, not Ethel Kate - she married Joseph Wilkins in 1919.

Do you have a copy of your father's birth cert?
I so, what does it say for Wilfred's occupation?

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 26 Jun 2018 22:01

Kathleen born 1919 would have been too young to have married and had a son in 1933

Not finding any of them on the 1939 register

Do you know when they passed away Sharon

Thank you for taking time to help me everyone. My grandfather Wilfred has the occupation as a smallware dealer. I never knew either of my grandparents, as my father never spoke about his past or his family, that is why I have hit a dead end

Sharon

Sharon Report 26 Jun 2018 22:37

On my fathers birth certificate it states his mother as Kate Wilson (nee Juckes) It is all very puzzling!.

Mary

Mary Report 26 Jun 2018 22:38

Could this be a sister to Brian

Lilian R Wilson mum nee JUKES
Manchester North 1931 8d 846 maybe died Sept 1931 8d 558.

Brian was 8d 731 Manchester North.

So could she have been Kate Jukes!!

Sharon Report 26 Jun 2018 22:52

oh! that is surprising, as my father never spoke about siblings so I assumed he never had any. Would be interesting if there is a lead to Wilfred Wilson who I assume would also be the father.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 26 Jun 2018 22:54

Can't see any Wilfred Wilson / Jukes marriage either.

Or Jacques, or any other possible variation.

I've tried looking for a previous marriage of a Juckes (or variation) to a Kate, but nothing obvious leaps out.

EDIT:
But the birth cert says nee Juckes, so that rules out a previous marriage.

Sharon

Sharon Report 26 Jun 2018 22:58

Mary my grandmothers maiden name was spelt Juckes not Jukes

Sharon

Sharon Report 26 Jun 2018 23:01

This is why I am hitting a dead end, nothing seems to lead anywhere.
