Puinot/Purnot/Wentworth

Looking for information about Florent Leon Puinot (Purnot in some records). He married Dorothy Harrison in Sheffield in 1943 and they had 3 sons. There is little information appearing in the searches. I know he changed his name to Anthony Peter Wentworth 1946-48 but no one knew why and he wasn't forthcoming about his family. According to the marriage cert, his father was also Florent L Puinot who was deceased at that time. I think his mother's surname may have been Poole from a search but this has the surname listed as Purnot which I suspect is a transcription error.
All help gratefully received

Ancestry does tie this both with the marraige and the change of name so think it is correct

Hi Shirley
I have the cert for Dorothy and Florent Jnr wedding which gives father's names. I managed to pick up his mother's surname of Poole but hadn't been able to find the forename so thanks for that. I had also managed to find his birth by tracking Purnot. The family don't think he was born in Sheffield and if we are correct with the birth you have here it confirms the suspected London connection. It's from here the trail disappears.

He was 24 years at marriage and hs occupation was recorded as Aircraft Fitter. I was surprised at first given he was in Sheffield at this time but did a bit of digging on a local forum and it turns out there was an airfield there during the war

Just looking at your tree on Ancestry

Noticed that you have Dorothy born 1922, died 1944 .............

and then say she was the mother of 3 sons born AFTER that????

Do you want to correct the information?????

I looked at the image on Freebmd for Florent Guyot .............. the record has been added by hand at the end of the list of "G" on a typed list.

I THINK (only think so far) that this is a red herring!

He does seem to disappear after this, with no records!

I think maybe he died in Paris 9/11/1911 there is a item in the Overseas Register for British Subjects stating Florent L Guyot worked in London.

Many thanks to all who have given information of commented. This has helped put a little more together and tie up some ends. The note about merchant seaman is particularly interesting and I will have a deeper look at that.
I think the discrepancy in Dorothy's date of death comes from attaching the death index record for her daughter to the record. Dorothy only died about 7-8 years ago I think, certainly in the last 8 years. I have noticed that Ancestry sometimes adds things when you save a record and it occasionally distorts the hand entries.
I can't shake the feeling that Florent's family might have come via the Channel Islands but I have absolutely no reason for this other than one of those hunches. I know there were evacuations to the UK during WW2 when they were under occupation. I might be wrong. Time will tell
