I have a block I have a man b1883 I can find his marriage 1903 then he has children but 9 of his 11 children have another womens maiden name on their info the last 2 children have their his wife's maiden name on thier info.
Any suggestions please?
Oh and I can't find one of the women at all. His wife I can only find on their marriage info so not a clue where she is from y.

What are the names? And location?

Have you considered that his wife may have been married before?

Buying the marriage cert would seem to be a good way to progress

What census info have you found for the family?

birth certificates might also help. I have found that sometimes where a mother has been married before ( as Erika suggested) children can be registered with either of her surnames.

As they married in 1903 then they should show on the 1911 census with a possible place of birth

Plus the marriage cert may give her fathers name ,if known

Thanks for your replies and sorry for the lack of info. George J Aspinall b1883 Greenwich. I can only find him married in 1903 to Matilda Ann Howard at Strood, Kent. He had 9 children starting with George W Aspinall b1904 then 8 more 1907 1910 1912 1914 1917 1919 1922 1927. I found them some in census where it says he lived with his wife Matilda.
But all their mothers maiden names were Mercer.

Then there were 2 more children Mary Aspinall 1904 and Philip Aspinall 1925 their mothers maiden name was Howard. Mary and George W were not twins.
I have sent off for the birth certificates of both who were born in 1904. Hopefully this will give me the info I need but in the meantime any suggestions are more than welcome.

Although Ancestry's transcription assumes Walter is Matilda's father, there's nothing to suggest that he is. Her father was probably Walter's brother James, in light of later posts on this thread.

Seems like she may have been illegitimate and was with grandparents for a time

Looking at the possible marriage of Louisa Howard to James Mercer in 1885, posted by AG -

If Matilda was born before marriage then mother's maiden name would correctly be Howard, but whether James was her Father or not, she became known as Mercer. whilst living with the family. But then correctly married as Howard as that was her birth name.

Birth registration of her children - maybe the question of Mother's maiden name was not well phrased and led to the use of one or the other

GG posted a possible 1901 for Matilad.

However, I think that's this child - here in 1891 with her father and siblings, including sister Maria born in Bermondsey (Ada Maria in 1901).
