ArgllGran, Yes I have the marriage cert and she is classed as a widow.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Mar 2021 17:40

Well, if that's the right George at 4 Manor Road, he was still alive in 1963, if not later.

Perhaps Alice divorced him? Or had him decared dead if she hadn't had any sign of him for years?

Or else that's not him at 4 Manor Road.

Do you have the 1953 marriage cert to see what her marital status was?

ArgyllGran,
Wow thank you.
It seems to fit that this is my grandad, eg, age, occupation etc.BUT,
That has thrown up a curve ball.

As a child I lived next door to my nan and her partner who I called 'Uncle Harry' .(You didnt ask questions when you were little lol.)
In 1953 she married the said Harry so I presumed her husband (George Tucker) had died although how she would have found out I do not know. :-S

ArgyllGran,

I have both marriage certs. I enquired at the Kew offices many years ago about this and the explanation I got was that the first marriage was not given the permission of his commanding officer so they had to go through with a second one.

I have never been able to confirm or deny this.

ArgyllGran

Is this coincidence?? Or two marriage registrations for some reason?

More ER results:

Archibald and Alice Eliza are also together at the same address in 1921.

Slightly odd in both 1921 and 1923 -
probably it's just the way the address has been typed, on two lines - but against Alice's name it says 10 Star Cottages, and against Archibald's it says Burwood Road.

If following the same pattern as for other married couples on the ER, one would expect either "10 Star Cottages, Burwood Road" against each name, or else the address for the first one and "Do." for the other partner.
But it's likely just the way it's been typed.

Archibald and Androniki are at 26 Cardinals Walk, Hampton in 1961, as well as in the 50's.

Sorry being thick but what does ER mean.

AnnMarieG Report 18 Mar 2021 12:35

I found his grave and found out that he had been living in Twickenham in the 50's.I dont know who this Androniki was or Fataini only that I believe they were of Greek origin so presumed he met them and came back to England with him. Androniki is listed as being his wife but as far as I know he was not divorced from my nan.(wife in name only.lol )

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 18 Mar 2021 12:33

AmG we crossed.

It was on Ancestry as were the ER's mentioned.

I wonder if Fatini was connected to Androniki.

Edit: I have just read through the old thread. Hampton & Twickenham are side by side in Middlesex. So the Archibald/Androniki ER is likely to be correct.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 18 Mar 2021 12:32

A previous post by AnnMarieG about Fatini:

https://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1206825

Further info copied from that thread:

"my grandad [Archibald Arthur ] was in the army and my nan, grandad and my mum lived in malta until 1914 when my nan and mum came back to england but my grandad didnt."

Did you ever send for Fatini's death cert, AnnMarie?

As you said Fatini and Archibald were friends in the same care home, perhaps her name is on his stone because she had no family to erect a stone on her actual grave, ??

ADDED:
However, you're not asking about her on this thread!
