ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 May 2021 18:23

The apparent different surnames are just different spellings.

In those days there was no standardised spelling of any name.
Parish clerks and other official people spelled names the way they sounded, or as the person thought it might be spelled.
Most ordinary people were illiterate in any case, and would have no idea how to spell their names.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 May 2021 18:29

Maddie advised clicking on the box with three bars, then adjusting the Zoom setting.

Whether or not you see a box with 3 bars depends on your computer.
On mine it's just a row of three tiny dots in the top right corner - no box.

Joysie

You need to look at the trees on Ancestry! You must also check sources to see if the trees are correct. A lot of people will just copy without checking. Some people just ‘grab’ someone by name with no idea if there is a connection.
