The whole point of me starting to do my family tree initially was to find ' the Irish connection ' on my Grandfathers side which was talked about quite often when I was growing up.
I still haven't found it and it's not looking likely at the moment, I'm wondering if it was all made up ;-)

Yes, Caroline in 1841 is Catherine - possibly misheard by the enumerator.

A tree on Ancestry claims that Hannah's maiden name was Roe, and that John's father was also named John.

This is the marriage the tree owner claims is theirs

John Marriot
in the England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973
Name: John Marriot
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 1809
Marriage Place: St. Modwen's, Burton-Upon-Trent, Stafford, England
Spouse: Hannah Roe
FHL Film Number: 1278995
Reference ID: 2:3Z7SVGH

If that's correct (and there's no way to prove that it is) , then this would be John's baptism, a few years after his birth c1809:

John Marriott
in the Staffordshire, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1900
Name: John Marriott
Baptism Date: 28 Jan 1814
Baptism Place: Burton upon Trent, St Modwen, Staffordshire, England
Religion: Anglican

Father: John Marriott
Mother: Hannah Marriott

:-0

Wish I knew how to get this information like you do, this is brilliant and I honestly do appreciate your kindness in helping me.
As John was born around the time they got married it does look like a good lead to me :-D.
Seems like all the men in my family tree are Johns :-S

If you have anymore spare time and now I've got the marriage certificate of John Burke and Marry Maryatt (Marriott) 29.4.1862 Wednesbury West Brom. (as in my previous thread). It also appears that John's father is also a John Burke ( General Labourer) Witnesses: Austin Orgill & Emma Marryatt. I see that the Marriotts lived with the Orgill's on the 1961 Census and it looks like Catherine Marriott (Connor?) married Joseph Orgill at some point so I'm guessing that John Marriott died somewhere in between 1951 & 1961 and it looks like they have a mixture of children from both sides.
P.S I think Austin Orgill moved to America as there's quite a a bit of info I've found about this.
I'd love to find further information from the Burkes side as this is where the Irish connection is supposed to be (not so sure now)

Everything I've posted on this thread is from Ancestry, apart from Ellen's birth which was from the GRO site (free to use), as was Mary Ann's birth posted by Shirley.

Burke is certainly an Irish name.

This is the Orgill marriage you mention, easily found on FreeBMD.

For any further Burke research , you (and we) would be better to continue on the other thread, which already has info about him - though not his origins.
