Hi I have been to the grave and the William Thompson I was told was my mother's cousin, if that is my grandfather (William) on the 1921 census he told them he was 3 years younger than he was ? My ancestors are full of secrets

https://www.deceasedonline.com/servlet/GSDOSearch

Unless you've been to the Cemetery or looked up the records in Nottingham Records Office, you can buy a few credits on deceased online to look at the grave records for

Sarah Timson buried 17 Feb 1927
William Timson buried same date
William Henry Timson 6 April 1938 and

there is also a William Thomson in the same grave who may or may not be a relative

they are buried in the Northern Cemetery, Bulwell

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 28 Aug 2023 21:30

That means that William was somewhat older than he claimed - if that’s him above on 1891 census

Linda

Linda Report 28 Aug 2023 19:56

Hi His second marriage is right and his father is named on the certificate he is also named William, he and his wife Sarah died within a week of each other 1927, the birth you found for Henry Timson 1886 was my uncle

ErikaH Report 28 Aug 2023 16:46

William seems to have materialised out of nowhere at his marriage in 1917

There is no birth matching the info he gives on 1921 census, and I can't identify him on earlier censuses with any degree of certainty

Did he name a father when he married in 1923?

ErikaH Report 28 Aug 2023 16:32

Just for INFO.........the other thread...if anyone wishes to cross-reference

The 1921 census info is as supplied by the man himself. The birth year is calculated by the transcriber from his age at the time

Hope this helps..................

As I said in my post at 15.23 yesterday, he was living alone in 1921

Is THIS his second marriage?

Hi death sounds right because my mother said he died 1st April but I am not sure about the census because it said he was born 1887 but I suppose they could have got it wrong, was he with any one else living with him, I know when he married my grandmother he lived on Newcastle Street in Bulwell Nottingham

Linda
Freebmd is where most of us look to see if there were any births.

You just need to put your grandfather's surname in the search box, then a couple of spaces under that put just the surname of his wife.

If a lady has previously been married, you need to put her maiden name in that section instead.

ErikaH Report 27 Aug 2023 15:43

You only have to put in the surnames, which you know. Go to freebmd and try it..............
