Val as this thread is nearly 2 years old you might be better off sending Joanna a private message by clicking on her name. If she still has the same email address she will receive notification, but don't bank on it.

Pippa (Phillipa) Report 2 Apr 2021 17:10

Hi I know this thread is old but hope it still reaches somebody out there! My great grandmother was Eliza Machell Blogg, born to Mary (nee Machell) who I'm guessing was Frederick Machell's sister, as I've found that both Mary and Frederick baptised their kids together, Eliza and Frederick's Elizabeth, in Middlesex 1864. Does anyone have any more information on that family please? We were told that our Machells were connected with the Machells of Penny Bridge (Lake District) but we don't know how. Please feel free to contact me.
Best wishes

To try and find any link to the Penny Bridge Machells you need to work your London family back. Also look at wills of the Penny Bridge family to see if you can find family members in London.

John Ulf Machell (info posted by Maddie) was living at the Hall at the time of his death, as was his son, John Dallas Ulf Machell

Interesting that the name 'Dallas' crops up.

Eliza's father

Dictionary of National Biography, 1885-1900/Dallas, Robert (1756-1824)

extract................
. On the first day of Michaelmas term 1818, Dallas took his seat as chief justice of the common pleas in the place of Sir Vicary Gibbs, who had resigned on account of ill-health; and on 19 Nov. in the same year was, together with Lord-chief-justice Abbott, sworn a member of the privy council. In April 1820, Dallas sat on the special commission for the trial of the Cato Street conspirators, and presided at the trial of James Ings (ib. xxxiii. 957–1176).

Justine, who witnessed Eliza's marriage, was his second wife
