Didn't we have a very funny thread about Adam and Eve? It got zapped if I remember rightly, because it was judged nothing to do with genealogy or Tips. OC

OC Yes, I think someone took our tip about the Nazareth tax returns seriously....

Alan, you should never accept family legend without checking the records. What sort of genealogist are you?

Unknown Report 30 Aug 2006 08:48

Whatever you think, ultimately the human race can only be here because a lot of incest went on in the dim & distant past.

Susan

Susan Report 30 Aug 2006 09:08

We must after all be descended from Jesus as God created Adam and Eve and we're all supposed to de descended from them, even Jesus.

Susan Report 1 Sep 2006 11:20

Yep, just another one of our over inflated British taxes.

Sheila

Sheila Report 1 Sep 2006 11:22

I would not pay 315 dollars a year to watch the garbage that is on our T V and no 'free to air ' sport The only good thing on at the moment is The Cowboys versus the Ells ( rugby ) so thank god for F R E D and the concessions leave a lot to be desired, Sheila

Sue There is no 'must be' about it. Even if Jesus fathered 50 children, there is no guarantee that their bloodline continues to this day. Many families are hugely prolific for many centuries and then simply die out all together. (I do realise your post was tongue in cheek!) OC

Richard

Richard Report 1 Sep 2006 13:22

I'm sure I've read before that Edward III is regarded as the Clapham junction of Genealogy as about 50% of us descend from him, through his dozen or so children. That was around 14th century. If you go further back to William the Conqueror, apparantly 80% of us descend from him and his offspring. Now given Jesus was double that back, is it not at least concievable, if of course highly unprovable, she could be right? In fact if you look at theories such as 'Mitochondrial Eve' every human being on earth is linked back to a common ancestor who lived around 150,000 years ago in Kenya,Ethiopia or Tanzania. So logically everyones trees join up at that point, if we could get back that far, including J.C himself. So though maybe not a direct ancestor he is any case a distant relative.... All that said I'm aware I'm, like this poor deluded woman, taking this all too seriously... She's clearly not sat down and thought about it. If Jesus DID have offspring that means he wasn't after all a divine being anyway, so being descended from him loses it's shine somewhat.

An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 1 Sep 2006 13:34

Richard I take your point that ultimately, we are all related. (Although some scientists believe there are at least three distinct 'human races' which started independantly of each other). But the problem with this is that we do not have a sample of Jesus' DNA and it is therefore impossible to prove any descendancy from him. OC (also wondering why she is bothering to take this seriously!)
