Hey Snowdrop guess what I don't have a dreadful name like Turris meaning evil etc in my tree now looking through ancestry saw a name Terris think Irish for Terrance its obvious Nolls

I have 10 generations with the name Charles!!!! It started as a surname & has ended as a middle name. When we used it as our son's middle name we didnt realise the name carried back for 314 years - & beyond!!!!!! Penny

Yes Snowdrops, it does get a bit tricky - of my paternal grandfather's four grandparents, three were Joneses. Slightly odd, then, that the one I've had most trouble tracing was the fourth - an Evans.

Yes, have to agree with you Linda, Barbara does seem a modern name - I wouldn't have thought it went back that far either. Thanks for replying Snopdrops

I have 7 Ralph Bullock 1658,1698,1738,1771.1785,1811,1839 didn't think it would be a popular name also have 2 Barbara White 1828,1887 wouldn't have thought that name was that old most unususal Aqcuila Cornes Wilkes Linda (cant be bothered to count my Ellen,Hannah,Mary, William and Thomas!!)

Nolls - sorry didn't forget you, just wondering about your Cinderella - makes you think as to whether your ancestors heard the fairytale or whether they just liked it as a name in its own right. But very unusual. Thanks Snopdrops

I have four generations of David Joneses, although just to be awkward two of them decided to call themselves by their middle names. Also three Thomas Joneses (different branch - I have three separate lots of Joneses). Most of my mum's side tended to use different names, although I do have three Oldham Keals - and possibly more, since the last one isn't a direct ancestor so I haven't bothered tracing his descendants.

Hi 'Snowdrops'.... I think the longest in my tree is the Hubbies Side: David Steven born 1755 at wick-down too his nephew who's now 20yo. That's 8 Generations off David Steven. Sui :-))

It seems in my family all males were called either James, Henry or William, and all the females are Sarahs, Louisa's and Kathleen. Does not make for an easy tree!

Thanks for cheering me up Snowdrops, I needed a lighthearted read. I`ve just spent hours on IGI trying to sort out my rellies in one little Gos village where they apparently lived for about 400 years, and they all used the same names, William, John, Thomas, Mary Ann etc, its a nightmare trying to decide who belongs with who. One family had a biblical bent however, Issac, Job, Lot, Hester, Adam & James, made it easier to find their marriages etc. Sue

I know i'm going off the subject a bit, but I met an Old woman called Dearest . She told me she got the name bcause when she was born her father said she was the Dearest little Girl he had ever seen !!! How Sweet ! janinex

Mine seem to do William George Mary and Ann John and Jospeh on every generation from 1780 up to 1900 - think they fancied a change then, although still had a few Mary's - or they even married ones! Very bizare - Im sure the baby name book wasnt as long then as it is now ;o) R x

My new name is unique just like some of the rarer names on here. I bet someone's got an ancestor named snopdrop somewhere though!!!!!! Snopdrops
