I am researching the Bryce family tree and there are rumours from old aunts that a Bryce of two were executed.

I would be most grateful f you could let me know when any Bryce's were executed and along with their names and any details that you may have.

Hi Lynda Ekin No Junner or Riddoch There are 3 Reid's. David Reid, executed at Edinburgh for forgery on 11/09/1780. Executed for forging and uttering notes of the Bank of Scotland. 'Elspet' Reid, executed at Aberdeen for theft on 14/01/1785. Condemned at the previous Spring Circuit for theft by housebreaking and being a habit and repute thief, Reid should have perished on the Market-place gallows with Jean Craig, but was respited due to pregnancy. John Reid, executed at Edinburgh for murder on 21/03/1787. Whilst serving to James Syuart of North Platt Farm, Reid murdered his 8 month old natural son by drowning him near Ratho Byres, executed at the Luckenbooths, his body given for dissection. Kathryn

Hi Clare Walker No Vernon's in that time period. There is a Thomas Vernon executed at Glasgow for robbery on 09/11/1785 though. Kathryn

Hi Sue 'November 6th 1818: John Barnet, Aberdeen. Arrested in the Autumn of 1817 for theft by housebreaking, Barnet, from Kirktown of Peterhead, broke prison and was not dealt with until the Autumn of 1818. A stout man of five foot nine or ten inches, with brown hair and red whiskers, the reward notice published after his escape recorded his, 'downcast and thoughtful look'. His body was buried at sea, but within a few days came ashore at the mouth of the River Don and fell to the surgeons. Executioner: John Milne, Aberdeen.' Thats all in the book. Kathryn
