Jones age 6-(abt 1855)-scholar-b. Cardiff David Jones-son-age 2-(abt 1859)-b. Cardiff As you can see I can't figure out the street name or the second last child as well as the last one being David b. 1859 when your 1851 census has David b1849 Any bright ideas would be welcome as I would really like to get a lead on any of the remaining family members in Cardiff who might have any information about what it was like when my grandmother, Gwenllian Jones, was growing up there as one of (the Harbourmaster) Benjamin Jones' children between 1890-1910 Regards John of Balmain Sydney

Hi Debra Slightly elusive one here as I couldn't pin him down in 1861. Maybe 1851 has the answers. I'm after: John Millward born circa 1814 (allow a few years either way) probably in Wales (somewhere). Some confusion over his birthplace 1871 says Denbigh, 1881 says Derby. The latter should probably have been the former. It's possible 1851 has him listed as borm somewhere else entirely. Can you have a look at 1851 Wales first. I know of one in Flintshire whose wife is Jane Millward. This is not him, he's another one. What might identify him is if he comes up with any of the following occupations: Spiirt Merchant Publican Licensed Victualler or something that says he sells alcohol. It is possible he's in England at that time. If it's not too cumbersome please have a quick look. Thanks eversomuch if you can do this - I have no record of him before 1871 and yet he's such a key part of my family history. Best wishes Jonathan

Thank you Debra That seems to be the family on the 1851. I don't know the name of Mary Ann's first husband. The first Lady on the 1871 seems to be the correct one. Her second husband was George Sherriff or Sheriff. Mary ann was illeiterate as a son's birth cert I have, says 'X the mark of Mary Ann Sheriff, late Elliott, formerly Edgeley. They seem to spell this with or without the middle 'E', Also in the 1991, George (and Mary Ann) had a stepson, John Sheriff, (mistranscribed Shariff). I believe he was John Elliott. Further, in the 1901 my g/f George Sherriff, son of George, stepson of Mary Ann had an adptoed daughter, Ada Elliott. I suspect that Ada was the daughter of John, but I have used up my budget for certs at present and put that in the list for my next order. Kind regards David
