Vic Roberts Dafydd Hayes Joint co-ordinators / webmasters, North Wales BMD ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ NORTH WALES: We have just added the following indexes to the North Wales BMD website: Welshpool Register Office Civil Marriages - Llanfyllin Registration District 1837 - 1889 1772 entries Although the former Llanfyllin registration district covered a considerable area, it was (and is!) lightly populated. There were only 1772 civil marriages during the 52 years from 1837 to 1889. Until 1898, the Registrar had to be present, by law, at all marriage ceremonies that took place in Nonconformist chapels and Roman Catholic churches - and also, of course, at those that took place in the Register Office! He/she recorded all these marriages in the same Register - hence they are all described as "civil" marriages. The parishes in the Llanfyllin registration district were: Llangynyw Llanfair Caereinion Llanerfyl Llangadfan Garthbeibio Llanfihangel yng Ngwynfa Meifod Llanfyllin Llanfechain Llansanffraid ym Mechain Llandrinio Llandysilio Llangedwyn Llangadwaladr Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant Hirnant Llanwyddyn Pennant Melangell Llangynog Many thanks to Bryn Ellis and his team of volunteers for their work in photocopying, transcribing and checking all these indexes; and to the staff of Welshpool Register Office, for their active co-operation in the project. NEW BMD Sites !!!!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear all, I pleased to announce that another county has joined the growing number using the Cheshire BMD system and they have gone live tonight. Starting with just marriages from the Chippenham Register Office, with many thanks to Diane Waddington and team, we welcome Wiltshire to UKBMD. Also, no less an achievement, Darlington have also produced a BMD site of their own design. Both have been added to the UKBMD site along with a few more parish and census sites added earlier in the week, so that there are now over 270 sites linked to by UKBMD. regards, Ian Hartas +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date. I reckon UKBMD is a really useful site and find the local BMD sites very good, although obviously not complete yet, and the local offices very helpful - and at least as quick as GRO-online! The only disappointment is that W Midlands hasn't updated since 9 Dec 2003. Is there any likely update in the offing, do you know? or any particular reason why that one has stalled when all the others have been updating all year? Christine

Dear all, Warwickshire now have a BMD site. :-) It's based on their own design rather than using the Cheshire BMD code. :-( Accessible as usual via the 'Local BMD' button. Kent keep moving their pages around, so I've had to point at their home page and ask that you click on the appropriate link rather than directing you straight to the BMD pages. The Wiltshire BMD site has had its first update. :-) A few other sites have been added under the various County pages too. Thanks to all who suggested them. Keep those suggestions for inclusion coming ! regards, Ian Hartas UK-BMD : http://www.UKBMD.org.uk The address is: http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/Web/corporate/pages.nsf/ Links/472FA73688E0473780256EC8002D177E
