Hi, I would like to add about my Sister's first baby a little boy born in 1965 lived about an hour.he was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. I have looked for Birth and Death details but can find none. I am amazed that the births and deaths of these little babies were not registered, why, when they too lived and died like everyone else. I think he was buried in an unknown grave and location. My Sister and her Husband never talked about it, if my Sister were alive today I think she might have talked to me about it. Ellen.

hi maz, i was just browsing through the threads and come across still births. i had a little boy in 1961 who was still born he was also thalidomide i never got to see him .as the doctor just whisked him away , but there was no birth or death certs for him,no one ever spoke about him it was just as though he'd never been born when i asked what under takers he'd been taken to i was told not to worry every thing had been taken care of hazel.

Hi Maze I have just been reading some of the stories on stillbirth, I had a stillbirth in 1965, I did know the sex, but I also, was not given a birth or death certificate only the papers from the undertaker, I did have to pay for a coffin. Have never known where he was buried I was too poorly to go and see. Sandy in Essex.

I don't know how these poor ladies coped with the loss of so many babies. I lost 2, one very early but the other at 5 months. Despite there being a total mess up at the hospital we had her blessed in the hospital chapel, and a funeral for her We didn't have to pay for the coffin, hearse etc. all we had to pay for was the church for the funeral service, she is buried in my local cemetery in a special section for still borns and baby who died shortly after birth. she has her own little plot with a desktop head stone. as others have said she might not have been a person to the authorities but she was very much a person to me Linda x

Nudging to help someone with stillbirth queries

Michaela

Michaela Report 30 Jan 2006 10:25

In reply to a query as to RC stillborn babies. My grandmothers elder sister was still born (early 1900's). She was buried on the cemetary boundry - meaning she was buried in the ditch at the edge of consacrated ground. The grave is unmarked because she was not baptized. It seems so cruel to me. Michaela

Maz,I have recorded my stillborn grandaughter Lauren on our family tree. She was no registered as she missed her Viable date by 4 days!!, just under 6 months gestation and therefore a non person. She was very much a little person to all of us. Rose
