Hi girls, i'm sure that I left words on here before but no sign of me anywhere. I also have this wretched illness, was diagnosed only about six months ago, but hearing all you talk of your symptems, wonder if I have had it for much longer. I also get the watery eyes, put it down to hay fever, but get it all winter too. On Saturday. when we had hot weather, my legs swelled to twice their usual size, could hardly walk. Years Iv'e had trouble with swollen legs and put it down to working at the back of a bar all night. Now retired, luckily so can sit down all day if I like but still my legs and hands get painfully swollen. Sparkly, I have had two husbands, first a waste of space, second a gem, but I think that men are genetically incapable of sympathy, They have to have something that is more serious, hence, MAN FLU. EEE that felt good, getting that off my chest, hope you don't mnd me butting in Love all Nina from Sheffield

I'm having a problem with my knees as well Puss, they are swollen and painful and strangley stiff. It's as if they are full of water or something and hard to bend, a very strange sensation. Been like this for a while, don't know if it's the fm or I've overdone it by being on my feet too long when we moved. I also have the watery gritty eyes but didn't put it down to fm. I have done what my eye specialist at hospital told me to do when I had an eye condition. For last three days I have folded a clean soft flannel into a corner and put a drop of baby shampoo on and massaged it across my eyelashes at the roots. Rinsing in nice warm water afterwards, my eyes feel a lot more comfy and easier.

Hi Caz, and all, well the coat has been in the wash for the second time, and there is still a faint line down the back about 9 ins long but I think it will be ok, and gradually fade/wash out, can't get another coat like it for under £80 and will manage for the mo with this one, I have lots of coats but this is the most versatile one. Still doing washing, lots of his stuff suddenly turned up in the linen basket, and then he said when he saw me put a duvet out to air, don't forget I am varnishing the bird table again. Told him where to go, how can I get his things dry if I can't use the line? He is now asleep in the chair. His son left this morning on a 6am flight for Angola, via Holland, Johannesburg and then on to where he has to work/train, on his own this time with no colleague, and he is not the brightest banana in the bunch, so no idea how he will cope, he is not used to travelling alone much either. Apparently he was very tetchy and nervous yesterday according to his girlfriend, who is alone again, this time for a month, in their new house. Not what they expected when they bought it, she is doing all the decorating while he is away, and keeps choosing colours he doesn't like lol He didn't get to see his dad last night or speak with him so o.h. is upset about that too as the son had said he would call round yesterday and then didn't turn up, came to stay at his mum's as it is near the airport.
Oh well at least he - o.h. - will be back at work tomorrow afternoon!
I have showed him articles I have printed out about fm and he just says yeh, yeh! I give up!

Oh Liz, I'd go bananas if my hubby told me that, luckily he understands and has seen how badly I have deteriorated in the last few years. Granted I have all my other illnesses but I coped with them, it was when the fm got to the point where it never lets me have a break, just day in day out pain and fatigue, that I went downhill. He told me to go to bed early yesterday afternoon but I only got an hours sleep, pain woke me and when I tried to move it made it worse, we can't win can we, lol.
Sorry about your coat, it must have been obvious it was there, men are so stupid at times and always blame other people, mine doesn't but my ex did.

Edited to say Liz have you shown OH a thread about fm or one of the articles on Google?

My oh. told me again last night that I am lazy and play on my fm, I wish he could have it for a week and see how it feels, in fact wish I could transfer it to him and let him keep it! I washed a coat, a light stone colour as the collar was grubby, you know how they get. Had it drying nicely on the line with a fleece jacket I had washed, and went down to move it along the line as the sun had moved round. I hung it lengthways i.e. down length of back with inside quilted lining to the sun, as I had had it hanging a different way before. Just a few minutes earlier, o.h. had moved the bird table he had just varnished with a dark treacly varnish into the greenhouse for the night so the birds didn't get stuck to the feeding platform, I didn't know he had dragged it along the linen line till I noticed the varnish on my coat, had to clean it all off with white spirit and wash it again but there are still marks and some I missed as well, so will have to redo it later today. I could kill him, I got it in 2007 from a charity shop and it's the most useful and comfy coat, light to carry and wear but warm and windproof when needed. He said it was all my fault for having the stuff on the line while he was working in the garden, stupid idiotic man, doesn't he understand we have to make use of the sun, he had had the garden to himself most of the day. He is the most useless person I know, and turned the blame on me so it went into a row..... how I kept my hands off the chopping board I had just washed up I don't know, it nearly went round his ear lol
Happy Holidays lol be glad when he gets back to work

Hi Julie Ann, the fibrofog is embarassing at times, it certainly does affect your memory and speech. I feel a complete idiot at times when I can't find the word I want, plus as you say the confusion. I don't work as I'm disabled and have just moved into sheltered housing, a lot easier to get around the flat than the semi we used to have. My doctor tells me I have to rest in the afternoon in bed as my feet and ankles swell, but lately I sleep all afternoon, I don't need telling to go to bed. I'm closing down now but will look for this thread tomorrow, I haven't seen the other one for weeks.

Hi all, I have just seen this thread, very interesting. I have fm and my eyes go blurry and all letters and words seem to have a ghost round them, makes reading difficult. My consultant has put me on morphine because I have so much pain, I take anti-inflamatory painkillers before I go to bed as well, but then the pain wakes me up so I never get a good sleep. The worst for me though is the fatigue, sometimes I can hardly get the energy up to walk from one room to the other, I do a small job and have to sit down I'm exhausted. It's an evil illness made the worse for being invisible.

there is a fibromyalgia web site run by arthritus ARC, its common that partners are unsympathetic of symptoms, mine does realise now after i was in hospital twice with the headaches, id only wanted um to help me cos of pain was so bad, but they took my blood pressure and was concerned of a stroke, so kept me in, it took days for it to subside, i felt so stupid but it was clear others were concerned, tho it was back to the FM again, lol they never find any other cause, and its hard to treat,
xxx keep your chin up

Diane, we have a fibromyalgia thread somewhere, I will try and nudge it up for you.
I understand the fm can develop after a person has suffered a viral infection, such as glandular fever, or a throat infection and when I am really tired, I could earn money on a chat line, my voice sounds so husky and sexy, I am told lol
I don't think there has been enough investigation into fm as it is such a difficult illness to diagnose and treat and yet a person can look well, I have been called lazy by my o.h.'s son, I said to him, I hope you never get this, you would understand then, but under my breath I was evil, I said to myself, Maybe you should get it and then you would be more considerate to others with it.
I am getting such headaches just sudden pains, but I am sure it is stress and tension causing it, the trouble is that other illnesses could be disregarded as just part of the fm symptoms, if you understand me.
Take care, Lizx

Hi Liz,
was asking about you only the other day. Sorry you are having such problems. Over a year ago I had lots of headaches, not something I usually get and not prolonged ones, more like a pain, plus I was getting a sort of flashing at one side like a reflection quickly flashing into view, so I had my eyes tested, the flashing is due to a slightly detached retina, so I am under strict instructions that if it ever gets worse to go to a and e immediately and tell them what the optician said. i have worn specs since the age of 11. Anyway I had new specs, altho didn't really need them badly - I am short sighted - but they haven't made the headaches any better. I put mine down to stress and tension as I have so much stress in my life but I do worry about putting things down to tiredness, stress and fm - I speak to my doctor fairly frequently but she doesn't seem to notice some of the symptoms I speak about. I think we do tend to put lots of things down to our fm and other ailments like arthritis but Diane, fm causes poor sleep - I can't remember how it feels to wake up feeling refreshed and raring to go.
I hope you can get more info from somewhere Liz, is there a support group in your area, there is one here but I have never found time to get involved with anyone there.
take care, Lizxx
