Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 26 Mar 2009 22:54

My sister had a burst aneurysm in the brain two weeks ago tomorrow and was lucky it was treated within the golden hour with brain surgery, she had a bad week from tuesday last til Friday when they discovered she had two blocked veins in her neck which were treated by angioplasty.
have heard today the latest news and looks like she is doing quietly well, she seems to have been affected by stroke type of injury as still seems a bit confused,This is the latest email i had today.
"Up date on Lynne. She is still in the Critical Ward but is doing really well, eating small amount, and sipping Pepsi, her memory is also getting better, and has almost normal movement in her legs and arms. But, unfortunately being confined to bed is making her restless, she really wants to get up, so much so she was trying to pull one of the tubes out from her head which is not a good idea, as this is draining the blood clot. The physiotherapist has told her that she will speak with the Doctor about when the tubes can come out, then she can start physio, which I am sure will make her feel less irritable with herself"

Hi Shirely, i am so glad that your sister is improving, every day now hopefully will see an improvement in her, i would not mind the confusement so much as yet as her brain has had an very nasty shock firstly by the aneurysm itself and then by having the surgery. Hopefuly within the next week she should be in the high dependcey ward and out of the Critical Ward.
((((((HUGS))))) Take care.
Betty.

Thank you ALL for your good wishes,
Have heard today that the doctors are pleased with her progress so far, Her hubby Tony spoke with the doctor yesterday and he was very pleased how she was doing , They have been keeping her blood pressure artificially high to encourage blood flow through the blocked arteries that have had angioplasty, and to test the surgery done on the burst aneurysm. Its been looking good so they been letting the blood pressure return back to normal. All being well they will be removing the tubes from her head, that have been draining the blood that flooded her brain, this weekend so she can then sit up and hopefully stop being so agitated. She will need physio but has been a VERY lucky girl that was seen and treated in the golden hour after after her "stroke"
What a worry!! you dont expect the Baby of the family,in the usual event of time, to have such problems. I Know that may be illogical cos life is fragile BUT she was the last family member you would have thought was at risk
However like the others in my family who have had strokes she is a heavy smoker!! I say no more!!

Thanks for asking Lily,I have literally just opened an email from her close friends who have been keeping me updated as her OH is staying at the hospital. She is doing very well ,they took the tubes out of her head yesterday and she can now be propped up . she has started physio by sitting on the side of the bed but it made her dizzy so she had to lie down again. Her friends went to see her yesterday and she knew her them and they did manage to have a few laughs ,but she still gets a bit confused. She seems to be 99% getting there,
She has been a Very lucky girl in that she was diagnosed and operated on within the golden hour after it happened,

Thanks Lily
Just got the latest email on her from her friends who have been keeping us in touch.
Quote:
Good news, we saw Lynne yesterday (Thursday) and she was a 100% better than when we saw her Sunday.
Tony told us that when he was there on Monday they actually put her in to a wheel chair and Tony was allowed to take her out onto the sun deck of the hospital for 10 minutes. Her blood pressure did go up a little, but they managed to bring it down again OK, it was probably the excitement of being allowed out of bed for the first time, when we mentioned it to her yesterday she said "it was great to get some fresh air", then on Tuesday they got her up again to walk around the ward. So everything is looking good at the moment. Even when we saw her yesterday she was sitting on the edge of the bed watching TV, she seems much happier.

Unfortunately, she is still getting confused when talking to you, but hopefully the confusion and memory loss she is currently experiencing will improve in time.

We will be seeing her again on Sunday, so will e-mail you when we get back, hopefully with even more good news.UNQUOTE
So looks as if she may be turning a corner

good that she is still making progress.. I am sure everyone is impatient for her to be really better but it is one of those things that takes time to heal. I am sure her memory will improve as time goes on.
