I spent yesterday afternoon working in the hospice shop. It was my turn to learn how to use the new scanner that has been installed. The printed sheet of instructions don't tell us everything though. I did make some mistakes and had to call the boss to correct them, though there were some occasions when I was sure I had done everything correctly. On one occasion there was a spell in customers so I was sitting chatting to my partner, then a customer came up and when I went to sign in to the machine the screen was blank. I am sure I had not done anything. The boss had to restore it, don't ask me how.
I might go to visit Phil this morning as I missed visiting him last week while I was in hospital.

I arrived at 11 a.m. to visit Phil and he was still in bed. So were several of the other residents. I had to wait while he was washed, dressed and shaved. Not that I get any real 'joy' out of my visits. He doesn't look at me very often, doesn't seem to recognise me when he does, doesn't talk to me (I think he has forgotten how to talk) so I sometimes wonder why I bother, but I have to show the carers that I still care about him.
Did a little shopping in Manukau, came back to our shop in Takanini for a cuppa, then to Papakura to do a little more shopping, then home. Tomorrow I am taking the other gt grandma with me to Hamilton to see our two bonny boys and their mother.

You have to 'show' yourself you care too Huia, it must be a thankless visit but at least you know you have done your best for him. And, if you went shopping the day wasn't wasted. They were late getting them all up. I guess that sort of explains why they forget how to speak, they are probably not stimulated when nobody is visiting. But I am sure that in their own way, theya re contented in their world. :-)
I was just chuckling to myself here. T's face is getting better. All along I have said 'Are you sure it wasn't a wisdom tooth that he took out?' Because I know they cause similar problems when they come out. But no he said it couldn't be because there was another tooth behind it. Hmmm. He has just come in to my room and said that it must have been a wisdom tooth because he can't find another tooth back there Lol Lol!!! Do you know how many teeth you have got? Yes so do I. :-D :-D :-D

Oh Huia, it must be very difficult for you to see Phil as he is now, not recognising you nor able to talk to you. I know that my sister-in-law sometimes get upset after she's been to see her husband. like Phil he doesn't talk and she's not sure if he still recognises her or any of their grown up children.
Brother-in-law also can't walk now as he has problems with an arthritic hip. My sister-in-law has spoken to them in the home about him having a hip replacement, but the only response from them was he would have to wait a long time for the operation, and it isn't worth it. Lynda is able to pay for the op, so was upset when they told her that it wasn't worth it. She feels that as Alan can't say how much pain he is in, the operation would help to give him some relief from the pain.
Hope you and the other grt grandmother have a good trip to Hamilton tomorrow, to see your family. Take care of yourself.
Ann, I am just going to go up to try and make one or two cards from the cards off Jean. Got a couple of ideas in my head, but whether they will work out is another thing.lol!!
Jean, how are you feeling today? I hope that you are feeling better and are able to get on with some more cards.
Mo, if you can manage to look in, I hope that your Vertigo is getting at least a bit better each day. Take care of yourself.
Sylvia, I hope that your leg has healed by now and that both you and OH are alright.
I hope the weather is alright with you today, it hasn't been too bad here today, mostly dry with some blue sky at times and not too cold.
Marie, how are you and your family? Hope that you are all alright.
Must go now, speak to you all later.
Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi Mo, and everyone
we're having warm wet weather here ....... what's sometimes called the "Pineapple Express". It comes straight across the Pacific from Hawaii :-)
............... I've been clambering around the branches of OH's tree for the last few days, trying to put "fini" to the family in the early 1800s. Not easy!
I think I'm going to have to agree with myself that I have found everything that there is to find ............... even if it means that I do not know when A was born or when and where B and C got married!
Take care everyone

Another lovely visit to Hamilton. Last week my granddaughter had several hernias repaired (the result of her first effort at childbirth) so she is not allowed to pick up heavy weights like the 2 yr old or the 5 month baby. Her partner is at home to help her for a while. I have put some photos on FB,

Hello my lovelies, Yes surprise surprise, it's little old me. Thank goodness the giddiness is now wearing off. Trying to look at the computer screen was a night mare, with it jumping all over the place, and not being able to focus properly was awful. I managed to speak to family a couple of times on F.B, but not for any length of time. It was so nice to catch up on all your news, I had been missing our little chats. I hope everyone is now feeling better, and getting over their health worries. We have got a beautiful day here today, and at the moment the sun is shining, such a wonderful change from all the wet weather we have had lately. Thank goodness our spate of bad luck has now passed. We had to get the car, refridgerator and washing machine repaired, one after each other. Thank goodness we had the insurance on the white goods, so they didn't cost us anything. I am now keeping my fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong. Mind you, we do have to sort the shed out, that has got soaking wet during all the rain. Not from the roof I might add, but water coming through the brick work, from the raised flower bed outside the shed. I have dug out all the earth, and am now deciding what way to tackle therest of it. What a nightmare that was, up to my elbows in mud, but I have managed to salvage the lovely bluebells, and put them into pots, so fingers crossed they survive. Well girls, I will say bye bye for now, take care, hugs to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Mo, and everyone
Mo ........ glad to see you back xxx
Jean ........... I haven't had faggots in more than 50 years! I think I liked them! :-)
Huia ............... you would have enjoyed seeing your gt grandsons. Hoep your granddaughter recovers well.
The sun is shining here :-)
We've just had an offer on the cabin and land ......................... it is at the asking price, so we have to accept it.
However, we've had to ask them to delay our acceptance of this initial offer ................. they wanted it by 5 pm today (or about 3 hours from now), but OH is away overnight, then has appointments tomorrow.
So our realtor is telling them we won't be able to respond until 5 pm on Saturday.
They want closure by March 26 .......... subject to them getting a mortgage.
They haven't even seen the darn place other than in photos ........... it's covered by 3+ feet of snow, and no-one will be able to get in easily until early April :-)
Apparently some other guy is going in either tomorrow or Saturday to "walk" the property on snowshoes ...... don't know whether he will get over all the 20 acres :-)
take care everyone

Oi Jean, you saucy monkey,I may be the proverbial bad penny, but you wont get any change from it these days. lol ;-) ;-) ;-) Love ya honey. To tell the truth Jean, I haven't played darts for a couple of weeks now, I have been going along to support the team, and last night I actually played in the threes, and played the best out of the three of us, and thats saying something considering I am out of practise. If I had played whilst I had the vertigo, I would have needed to throw a spear to hit the board, as it would have been bouncing around the room.
Goodness me Sylvia, it has taken ages for the cabin to sell, and now the buyers have left it late in the year to view it. But as long as they buy it, for the asking price, it has to be a bonus for you my love, no haggling or anything like that. Lets just hope that the person who is going to walk the property doesn't get lost in the snow, and can manage to find it in the first place.
Huia, I am not sure what causes this dizziness that both Jean and myself suffer from occasionally, and I do know that both she and I are dizzy lizzies at the best of times, without having to go through this blessed vertigo every time the balance goes. I hope you are o.k now my love.
Hi Sallie, what have you been up to today ? Surprise surprise, I managed to get the wasing out on the line, and it actually dried as well. Holy moly how wonderful it smelt when I bought it in from the line, so lovely and fresh, rather than getting it dried on the clothes horse.
Oooh I have just read back about your faggots Jean, we haven't had them in donkeys years either, and after your experience, I don't think we will bother.
Have a great weekend everyone. Hugs to you all, Mo xxx

Hi Girls,
Mo, so pleased that you are feeling better and that you were able to play in the darts match on Thursday evening.
We have a had a few bright days lately so have been able to dry the washing out on the line, as you said it smells so fresh when it is dried outside.
Tomorrow, we will be at the model railway clubs annual show. Both Jennie and I have been roped in to take the money at the door, so we have to be there by 8.30am until it closes at 5.00pm. I decided earlier in the week that the four of us would go and have a meal after it finishes, won't feel like cooking when we get home.lol!!
Jean, I use to love faggots years ago, but we had them from the family butchers that both my mother and nan always bought their meat from......he made them himself but only on a Thursday, they were delicious....only problem was that there was always a big queue from 12.00 lunch time as that was when they came fresh out of the oven. When we were on school holidays me and my friends were always sent to get them, we always complained that our mums never sent our brothers to get them, and that it wasn't fair.lol!! Anyway, faggots do not taste the same these days as they use to.
Well Jean and Ann, I have made two cards at last, I think my brain had got rusty as it took me a while to get into doing them. I shall get Alun to take photos of them and then send them onto you Ann. Hope I can remember how to send them.lol!!
Sylvia, pleased that you have sold your cabin. Let's hope that the sale will go through without any hitches.
Also pleased to know that your daughter is much better and that her and her OH are managing to work out their problems.
Huia and Marie hope that you are both alright. It's a while since you were on here Marie.
Well I must have a hot drink and then it will be time for bed.
Speak to you all tomorrow.
Take care everyone.
Love, Sallie.xxx

The other day I scrubbed and washed the outside of our old dog kennel (it had lichen and dirty spots on it). This morning I gave it a new coat of paint. I will take it to the hospice shop tomorrow in the hopes that it will sell. Phil made it some years ago from aluminium lined with corflute. It was for a medium size dog and I feel sure we will get somebody wanting to buy it.

Mo, pleased that you were able to play darts, and do well too, hope the vertigo is staying away now.
Sallie I look forward to the caard photos. Hope the model railway show went OK. And the meal afterwards
Jean, I haven't had faggots for ages but I do like them. I did put your last lot of photos on the blog, except for one that was a bit out of focus.
Had a lovely day out to Batsford arboretum yesterday and the photos are on the photo blog and on my facebook page.

Ann, the photo's you took at the arboretum are really lovely, I had a look at them on F.B..
Huia, the dog kennel is bound to sell quickly...even if a disgruntled woman buys it for her husband, and when he is in the dog house, he can sleep in it. lol
Sallie, I hope you took lots of pennies at the railway clubs annual show. I should imagine lots of dads took their young sons along to view the exhibits.
Guess what girls, you remember my telling you of my daughter whose husband left her for another woman a few years ago...well, surprise surprise, she is getting married again in June, to a fantastic man, who treats her and her children like queens. We are soooo pleased for them both, but totally relieved that the expence doesn't come down to us this time round. lol
Not only did we have Lilly yesterday for the day, but we have got her again tomorrow and on Saturday morning...whew, we will exhausted come the end of the week. As much as we love her to bits, she can be very hard work some days, god willing she is a good girl tomorrow for us.
Sending good wishes across the water to Sylvia, Marie and our Huia. Wouldn't it be nice to hear from Joyce (Dutch ) some time soon. I do catch up with her on face book sometimes.
Well I will say cheerio for now my lovelies, take care, Hugs Mo xxx
