I'm so sorry to hear about Toby Amanda, it's something I understand only too well. Toby was a big part of your family and has left you with some wonderful memories.

So sorry for your loss, Amanda, I understand it all too well. I missed my Toby-cat so much as he was a real character, he was so poorly and had to have weekly injections which didn't seem to help, so in the end I had to make the decision to let him go to rest - that was back in 1984 but he is still there in my mind and heart as are all my lost cats and my dog.

It is comforting to think of them as well again and waiting for me...

Mrs Grumpy , those are lovely words and so very true......Toby was a so and so for getting under my feet : )

Thank you all for your kind words xx

When I finally get to the " Rainbow Bridge " that is exactly as I have always imagined it will be.........a feast of tail waving friends ( both dogs and cats ) will overwhelm me : ))

I've planted Mesembryanthemums on his grave , so in a few weeks it will be a glorious blaze of colour.

So sorry Amanda - I know how that feels and it hurts so much.

This is one of my poems that I wrote after our little Pip was put down:

Cats

Yet another cat-shaped space
Has joined the number
Weaving slowly round my feet.
Making me trip and squeal,
Slowing my steps,
Catching at my heels.
Silent cries,
Invisible claws
Bring tears.

So sorry Amanda2003, we have to make that decision soon with one of our boys, he is 16 years with kidney failure. His mum is 19 (may be 20, was a rescue so not sure) and still very healthy.

Love the poem.

RainbowsBridge.com
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Really sorry to hear that, Amanda. I would never describe myself as an animal lover but I have loved some animals more than most of the people I have known.

This Old Cat

I'm getting on in years,
My coat is turning gray.
My eyes have lost their luster,
My hearing's just okay.
I spend my day dreaming
Of conquests in my past,
Lying near a sunny window
Waiting for its warm repast.

I remember our first visit,
I was coming to you free,
Hoping you would take me in
And keep me company.
I wasn't young or handsome,
Two years I'd roamed the street.
There were scars upon my face,
I hobbled on my feet.

I could sense your disappointment
As I left my prison cage.
Oh, I hoped you would accept me
And look beyond my age.
You took me out of pity,
I accepted without shame.
Then you grew to love me,
And I admit the same.

I have shared with you your laughter,
You have wet my fur with tears.
We've come to know each other
Throughout these many years.
Just one more hug this morning
Before you drive away,
And know I'll think about you
Throughout your busy day.

The time we've left together
Is a treasured time at that.
My heart is yours forever.
I Promise - This old cat.
