His AutoAid is a seperate thing from his insurance altho I think he got sent the info from one insurance company a while back, he has been with them for ages!

Methinks that Auto Aid are covering themselves .........on the basis that Married/joined couples are less likely to split up/move on and the car cover not being part of a Family anymore.............yeah I know couples split up,But..........

Why discriminate against a large section of the population, to be honest if the cover with Auto Aid is part of your partners insurance cover when its up for renwal if it cost extra I'd remove that option (use the cash towards a firm more freindly to unmarried couples), also ask the insurer why they us a firm that discriminates against unmarried couples.

Do shop round for breakdown cover, also insurance when its due, I know if you have RAC cover they give a discount on insurance. I also notice the AA are doing a bank holiday discount on their all singing and dancing cover.

I contacted AutoAid and this is the main part of the reply:

'Unfortunately, we are unable to cover you under your partners policy if you are not married or in a civil partnership(same sex marriage), if you would also like to be covered through AutoAid, you would have to take out a separate policy of your own, which would be £37. '

I mean, how old fashioned is that? I replied and told them so, but no response!

We have breakdown cover with the RAC, which covers the car, although it did come via the dealership we bought from.

The type of cover we have includes 'homestart', we never thought we would need it as it was a new car but have had them out twice (flat battery and found a nail in a tyre and didn't fancy messing with it ourselves).

I've had a look on their website and they do vehicle cover as well as personal cover. It does though get pricey when you add the additional options like 'home start' and transportantion to your destination.

The AA also do vechicle cover for the same price, as with the RAC it gets pricey as you add the 'extras'.

On Green flags site its says they cover your car no matter whose driving it, but they want details before they give you a quote.

Maybe change the title to 'breakdown cover', as insurance seems to be causing confusion, although I think a lot of insurers now do breakdown cover too, or at least have it as an optional additional extra when you buy you insurance.

Anyone else with an info?

Think people are misunderstanding - a courtesy car comes through the car insurance, it happened that way with us with More Than, but it's breakdown cover I am looking for, not car insurance, two different things unless you get an option with car insurance and not sure that happens.

our car is in for repair -accident-, we have a courtesy car indefinetly till it`s fixed-that`s ESURE

Have been googling but it isn't cheap, the cover he has for himself only isn't as much as the others. I am going to have a look at my bank and other things to see if there is anything offered like that.

I have RAC cover through Barclays Bank - in over thirty years of driving had never needed to use the cover I had until a week or so ago. RAC were absolutely fantastic - drove me and my passengers home - we were thirty miles away!! Took my car to overnight storage and then delivered it to the garage that cares for my car the next morning. Absolutely fantastic service and so quick!!!

Some places will only cover married couples, like the company he is with now, how outdated is that?

Also he doesn't want to change the insurance cover, which is with More than and I think the breakdown company cover came via them, I am named driver but have insurance cover with different company on my car too, which is not on the road at the mo.
Complicated I know but I don't want to do any long journeys alone without breakdown cover which isn't the same as insurance if you have an accident.

Steer clear of a company called 'First Call'. Check them out on the internet reveiw sites. They left us stranded on the motorway with two kids.

I have been with Autohome for years since falling out with RAC.I had one card and my dad had another on my membership.I now have personal cover.

Partner has Green Flag and I think he has me named on that too (Mr Beltandbraces).

The RAC will give a 50% discount on their all singing & dancing package to blue badge users.

The car owner or main driver does not need to be the badge holder; I get the discount for my Dad.

the RAC covers the person, and will cover you as name co-pilot, I believe. its extra, but you can name who you like, son, dau etc
