I was very sad to read this yesterday, hopefully that little girl is too young to know what she witnessed, apparently Darren was a very strong swimmer but obviously misjudged things badly with the river being swollen. Someone called the emergency services so must have been people around, good thing no one was evil enough to steal the baby. I am sure she will have lots of love from her relatives but it's not the same as not having her parents to bring her up, she won't have strong memories of them either so I hope her brothers and sisters tell her lots as she grows up about her Mum and Dad.
May you rest in peace, Laura and Darren, together but not with the people they loved most, their children.

One of their cousins was interviewed on the local news last night.
It is such a tragedy.
Darren leaves four children aged 16yrs to 7months.
Poor baby being left an orphan.

Condolences to both their families

R.I.P. Laura and Darren

Very sad outcome.

They obviously misjudged the conditions and unfortunately paid the ultimate price.

Simple human error which any of us might make under the circumstances.

How awful!

That poor baby girl, my heart goes out to her and her family.

Kempinasunhat,

I absolutely agree, sometimes people do not "look before they leap" but under the same set of circumstances most likely I would react in the same way. I love my dogs and after all we are only human and make the wrong decisions all of the time.

A couple died after abandoning their baby daughter on a riverbank to jump into the water and save their dogs.
Laura Frey and her partner Darren Greenan were walking along the bank of the River Garnock in Ayrshire.
When their dogs got into difficulty in the water they jumped into the river, which had been swollen by recent heavy rains, to try and rescue them. They left their daughter in her pram on the riverbank.
Ms Frey, 30, was pulled out of the river shortly after the incident on Sunday and later died in hospital. Mr Greenan's body was recovered this morning following a major search by coastguards.
Two of their three dogs were also found dead in the water.
A police statement said: "At around 10.15am the body of a male, thought to be 33-year-old Darren Greenan, was recovered from the River Garnock near to the site of the initial incident."

This is so sad and I am desperately sorry for this little girl's loss. To her and all of her family I send my heartfelt love and sympathies. I hope she will be well cared for and loved and know that others out there care about her too. God be with you little one on lifes journey!

Lainey xx
