Hi Uzzi... I asked my grandson to help me and yesterday we backed up all the important 'stuff' on my computer.

I've also got my tree on 3 different internet sites.

Many, many thanks for this thread.... I was always going to do it later but after reading what happened to you I decided later had arrived.

I hope you have managed to retrieve your photos.

Just wanted to thank you for your reminder. My family tree maker appears fine & I can copy it etc but it won't back up. Just checking an earlier version to see if that will work.

my FTM was not backed up aswell as I thought ..but we won't go down that line or I might be a widow lol
SRS no I retrieved nothing from anywhere apart from the few photos I put on photobucket. Thankfully I am only losing a few shame is they are ones never to be repeated.
I am still picking up on the sites that I use and may have posted poetry on, a lot I will have lost.

SRS what ever you do back it up. I am not asking for sympathy, my fault, well hubbies but I should have checked !!


Back Up cos you never know when the gremlins will come to stay

SRS why will it not back up ? transfer a gedcom from it to your email .....that is always retrevable ( see said I couldn't sp) as your mail is cyber space

How am I ....gutted and ready to throw in the towel but I'm made of sterner stuff so I will just have a sob and carry on !

I'm not sure, perhaps it's too big (it holds the photos and sources in). i can copy it - so I have :-) but it won't do the proper backup. I've also got a gedcom file of it so it isn't a complete disaster.

I had a bit of a big disaster last June which I'm still trying to repair where I couldn't export individuals. As a result I had to merge an old file with a recent gedcom file and that caused a few mistakes too, which I'm still finding. Unfortunately although I thought I had done lots of backups the file was corrupted for a while so I was backing up lots of corrupted files.

I now regularly check for errors on FTM.

So sorry - please don't give up. Did you get the photos off MSN?

SRS no I lost the msn photos also, I really did lose everything but no matter how much I go Fcuk I will pick up again.
and next time around will remember to back up everything weekly.
