It appears I was right to be cynical.

Muffyxx Report 18 May 2009 20:28

DNA tests have confirmed that AlfiePatten isn't the father of baby Maisie.

Don't know if that's good or bad news for the lad really but I kind of guessed there was something a bit iffy about the story xx

btw .....i'm catching up with the news online ......I'm not trying to be GR sky news or anything honest lol xx

And off I go to google ...

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2435283.ece

Not a publication I would ordinarily choose to read, I think, but we'll make an exception.

Here's what I find shocking and appalling -- the fact that the identities, and pictures, of these CHILDREN have been plastered all over the media.

This absolutely would not happen in Canada. I don't think any of our media, bad as some may be, would stoop to doing this, and I'm pretty sure they'd be breaking the law if they did.

Precisely because:

Chantelle's family went into hiding after The Sun first revealed tiny Alfie believed he was the father.

At the time Chantelle’s mum Penny — who has six kids — said: "We don't want to go back until Chantelle feels she can take the baby out in its pram without people shouting things at her."

That's truly appalling.

Silly Sausage Report 18 May 2009 20:38

I said so at the time the way he spoke his voice hadnt even broke.....Janey his family sold the first story to the press and then moan wonder how they have found about the DNA?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 18 May 2009 20:40

What I mean, Hayley, is that the family would not be allowed to sell the story to the press here, i.e. the press would not be allowed to print it, even if they bought it.

I really am horrified by this. What an absolutely unforgivable way to treat children.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 18 May 2009 20:41

As I recall Janey........the boys father was holding up placards with Max Clifford's details as he was representing him and there was some kind of bidding war going on for the story? I could be wrong it was a while ago now.

I don't agree with the childrens pics being shown either though I do agree that's very wrong but I think the parents must've given their permission? xx

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 18 May 2009 20:43

I agree Janey btw I meant the press finding out about the DNA test not the family...lol

Kay????

Kay???? Report 18 May 2009 20:49

It wasnt Media fodder in anyway shape or form concidering both their ages and respect for the baby..

At least the outcome means the boy can go about his life with no restrictions.

Joy

Joy Report 18 May 2009 23:04

It is reported in the Telegraph, too -

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/5345999/Alfie-Patten-13-is-not-babys-father-test-shows.html

A DNA test has shown that another teenager, 15-year-old Tyler Barker, is the biological father of Maisie Stedman, who was born on Feb 9 this year.

Uggers

Uggers Report 18 May 2009 23:10

I hadn't heard this, Muffy - I am so glad it wasn't him cos I thought it was so sad. I do agree with Janey - I really thought the children shouldn't have been named and pictured in the papers, whatever permissions the families gave.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 18 May 2009 23:13

The family were WRONG WRONG WRONG to sell the story. If they hadn't made it public we'd all be none the wiser but I guess they've made their money out of it.....*shudders* Thing is......I guess I'm a sad mare because I'm interested in the outcome :0(

I always had the feeling it was just a scam to make money......disgusting seeing as it was at the expense of 3 minors

But that's how I read it xx

Joy

Joy Report 19 May 2009 08:45

And that is how I read it, too, Muffy.
